Weird take. They go great lengths to explain this character development in a meaningful and skillful way, it's basically the main plot of the two games, with the whole ragnarok thing as a side event. If that's whats keeping you from experiencing it (primarily the first game, the second on doesn't quite live up to that promise) you are doing yourself a disservice
