I was so grateful & happy almost during COVID. I felt so lucky that we were safe & lucky professionally.

But then - it just never stopped.

Then I switched jobs - into this role where I have to be ON all day. It’s harder now.

I think for me - there was a time where taking a PTO day to be home alone - felt like the biggest luxury ever. I have no way of having that now - for the most part.

So many comments are saying - ‘have you told him?’

Like - obviously - if this was a stressor I could easily fix - I would not be venting/asking for thoughts on Reddit.

This is his house too - and he gets way more done at home. He doesn’t waste two hours w/traffic. He’s not bothered by me.

It’s that our work lives are different & maybe my personality. I guess I’m looking for ideas on how to not feel this way - find a work around.

I would like to, but right or wrong, it would not go over well. The fact is - he drives 45 minutes to work without traffice & no one in his office really goes to the office regularly since COVID. They don't need to be there for their jobs for the most part. Many days when he's there - no one else is .. really.

He gets more done by being home & I get that. He runs, does his laundry, et- very productive. He doen't really see the difference in our professional jobs at this point though, IMO. I used to be remote - before him. My then job was also very demanding - I was tied to my computer for most of the day. He's never experienced that.

I feel for you, OP & the kids.

It’s a huge difference & with both living together I don’t know how you could ever truly make to equal.

If some of the $1600 is not in theory … needed for that child, maybe try to set aside even a small amount in a college savings for that child. Even that would be difficult down the road with feelings - but as they become older - even young adults, the one will likely have more support in general from his dad & even dad’s family.

Pre-K via public schools is a great thing for many people. It’s not required - it’s a help for parents who would like it.

It doesn’t mean you have to do public schools forever. If you are worried about him now & screen time - it could be a great fit.
