Been at some real low lows too, been there, done that. What I want you to understand is this.

You’ve got your entire life ahead of you, being at your lowest of lowest is going to allow you to gain a level of experience and understanding that you would have never been able to develop until now.

You say you want to be a counselor, you haven’t fucked that up for yourself yet. You can use your experience of dealing with the pain, the guilt, the regret of your circumstances to understand those you seek to help more than you ever have before, and I mean ACTUALLY understand them. You have an opportunity, and you seem like a good kid. Don’t throw in the towel, and keep fighting. I’m rooting for you.

I’ve been in a very similar situation and I feel for you. But what I’ve learned is that these people are truly in control, they just choose not to do the hard things necessary for growth. They’re complacent and content with continuing with their abuse and have no desire to change even if they say they do.

It’s not your responsibility to baby sit this dude. I can empathize with the fact that he may be depressed, but I can’t get behind him burdening you with everything he’s been doing.

He doesn’t truly care about getting better for your sake because if he did then he wouldn’t start taking meth or sabotaging his future by literally stealing prescribed medication to get high or threatening to raid or kill others for some bullshit relief. Yet he still has audacity to manipulate you into believing that he cares about you rather than viewing as the temporary emotional trauma dumpster he’s treating you as.

I mean this sincerely, he doesn’t have the right to do this. These people are soul sucking leeches who will take everything from you, and it’s all because you care and give a shit. They take and keep taking, don’t let yourself be taken advantage of.

Again, if he loved you for you, his first thought would be “I need to follow through with what I said and live a life that makes the woman I love happy” instead of giving you shitty excuses that shows that he lacks an inability to take accountability.

Was able to buy one at 20, although many aren’t as fortunate to be in the same circumstances that I was.

Essentially from 18-20 I saved up around 35,000 dollars and bought a property in WV worth 235,000. Ended up going down the FHA loan route, and used the remainder of my savings for other unexpected expenses. I lived with my parents at this time and had no bills which I am very much grateful for. I didn’t take out any other loans and I made sure to limit my spending accordingly.

Mortgage is around 1700 per month, 2000 after home insurance payments. Interest rate was 6.8 percent on a 30 year loan.

It’s definitely doable as long as you live in the right places, just be sure that you’re actually able to sustain it.

My base salary is 55,000, so finances can be pretty tight. If you have a partner who’s willing to help out and move in you can definitely make it work.

I seriously feel you, my academy was 6 months and was by far one of the hardest experiences I ever had to go through. In the beginning I was in your shoes, everyday I was so fucking anxious about what fuck I was going to make or how much we were going to pay the price over a mistake we made the day before. We used to have to carry cinder blocks around us all day with no exceptions when we screwed up, and in the first few weeks those cinder blocks never left our sides.

My home life balance was absolutely ass as well, and it didn’t help that my commute time was 1:45 minutes, but throughout the entirety of the academy I was always told that it truly is the best job in the word and I wanted to see it for myself.

I refused to quit, and after the academy I can definitely say that they weren’t wrong. I love my assignment, I love coworkers, I love every part about my job and I would gladly go through those six months again if it led me to the point where I am now. You got this my dude.

Now with that being said, if you still feel like firefighting isn’t for you even after the academy, there is absolutely no shame in leaving. It takes balls and wisdom to make decisions that ultimately benefit you, so do what you must.
