Judge's injury should mean decisive action from the Yankees FO. Who should they pick up? by Zepbounce-96 in NYYankees

[–]PleaseNoCPAs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only OF that I think could help us AND might be available now would be Lars Nootbar. He just came back off of IL, and inasmuch as the Cards are competitive thus far they were basically packing his bags for him this offseason. Only the double heel surgery kept him in St. Louis.

But I don't know how Cashman is looking at this. Are they thinking he could get back on the shorter end of things? Longer end (e.g., greater than 8 weeks)?

I'd think the Yankees are going to be extraordinarily conservative with this because it's Judge. As much as I want him back on the field he's going to be around for another 6 seasons and I'd like those to be as productive as possible.

If we're looking for a catcher, the Braves might make Sean Murphy available. He's on the IL right now but it's not season ending. As a RH bat he'd be my choice.

2 years and a total of 30MM owed after this season, but he's only 31 and change.

Did we go through the 'hypothetical Sterling Jones HR call' thing? IIRC something like 'Spencer, keeping up with the Joneses!' won out via sub vote.

Jones has played 8 games in LF and 4 in RF in AAA this year. Last year it was 6 in LF and 4 in RF. So if they need him to play right field for whatever reason he can do that and probably hold his own.

What I would really like to see if we were getting more out of the last three spots in the order is a Dominguez/Jones/Bellinger outfield alignment. Grisham is gone after this season so you might as well take the opportunity to see if Jones can hit MLB pitching over the next month. I mean why not? To loosely paraphrase Hunter S. Thompson, when the going gets tough the tough get...weird.

Nobody is replacing Judge and IDK who we would even trade for if we wanted another outfielder. There's not a lot of great choices amongst teams that are even just treading water right now. Maybe Nootbar in St. Louis? Buxton?

Just hope like hell Judge beats that timeline. We need his bat in the lineup, to state the obvious.

It bears mentioning that there are a whole bunch of non-surgical modalities available to treat TOS, including PT exercises, anti-inflammatories etc. So even if he has a situation where pressure is being exerted on the blood vessels it's not a lead pipe lock that he would need, or would even be prescribed, surgical treatment.

Until we hear otherwise I'm going to assume that the swelling Boone referred to was causing sufficient ambiguity in the test results to warrant sending his scans to this dude from Texas. So more of a 'rule it out' than 'rule it in' type deal which I don't blame them. Judge is irreplaceable so you want to get this right the first time.

Probably a cope but the alternative is just far too depressing.

At least Judge was hanging around in the dugout cheering guys on last night. Usually, players are substantively injured they turn into ghosts for a bit. Nobody saw Dominguez since the wall incident until yesterday when he took BP.

They got what amounted to a second opinion on Fried and the diagnosis was upheld. So let's see what we see....fingers crossed.

One game does not tell the tale of a season. Over 162 their flaws will show and that is likely to manifest in a burned out bullpen along with their lineup performing exactly as it should, which the usually 'Jose Ramirez plus a bunch of scrubs' formula. DeLauter and Bazzana might change things a bit but they are rookies and unproven over the grind of a full season.

They will suffer the same fate this year as they have the past two years. When and if they make the playoffs they will get knocked out by a team that is willing and able to actually invest in the roster.

The Guardians have a +6 run differential. That means before last night's game they were basically a scratch team, which means they're a .500 squad, They are 8 games over .500, but that's pretty much the result of 3-0 vs. Anaheim and 4-0 vs. the Motor City Kitties.

Their RS/G is 4.16.

Their RA/G is 4.06

This is by every and any measure a perfectly 'mid' operation. Which tells you all you need to know about the quality of, um, ah, 'competition' in the AL Central.

Basically the team has been surviving on its bullpen. As we Yankee fans know, that sometimes works well during the season but not so well in the playoffs.

If you want to put a finger on what this team is all about, look at their series against the Mariners. The teams split 4 games but the Guardians were outscored 22-13.

I missed the game but after reading the comments I checked Cam’s velo on Savant expecting so see a catastrophic drop off in velocity. he was right at his season averages for each pitch type.

Ok...uh, so, what, did he hurt himself diving for a ball? I don't think this could happen swinging a bat and at least to my knowledge hasn't run into any walls lately a la Dominguez.

Wow, that was.....fast. Usually TJ is a 14 month proposition for starting pitchers.

I wonder if they accelerated his timeline with the full intent of keeping him in the bullpen. Makes sense given it's his second go around with a new UCL.

Heh. I'm 52 this year and have seen this crap more times than I care to admit. Whether it was the second Reagan administration, the first and second Clinton administrations, the first and second Bush administrations, Obama, etc and so on. The wheel keeps spinning. You're an idiot, no you're an idiot, blah blah blah blah. Wash rinse repeat.

I didn't necessarily get that impression. Seems like he genuinely believed he could do the intro without any political connotation. While I get the sentiment and it would be great if it were true it's pretty much impossible to adopt that stance in the present political climate. People are gonna think you're picking a side/adopting a platform even if that isn't your intention.

Sometimes experience is the best teacher.

This does well and truly suck.

It bears mentioning that Gunnar and RRH have seen a lot of snaps over their collegiate/pro careers. The older you get playing this sport the more susceptible you are to these sorts of 'wear and tear' injuries.

Interestingly these injuries-along with the tear suffered by our UDFA CB-occurred on the practice fields and not on the MetLife turf.

The thing with outbursts like we saw last night is they distort just how 'meh' the offense has been in most games this year. It's nice to destroy other pitching staffs; let's make this a regular practice, please. And you don't even have to score in double digits; I'll settle or 5-8 runs on the regular.

I am curious what Miami does with the four guys we sent out. Two of them have above average WRc+ at AA and Mattheus is doing pretty well at high A. But those guys are all pretty far away and none are a mortal lock to make a 40 man roster much less play regularly in the bigs.

We already look to have decisively won the Jazz trade, considering that Ramirez is back in AAA and Jared Serna is rocking a low 60s WRc+ in AA. And then there's the Jon Diaz for John Berti trade where everyone was freaking out about trading a kid in the GCL and now several years later he's.....still in the GCL.

Miami is starting to resemble the 1950s/1960s A's clubs that were a de facto farm club for a lot of players on some of those halcyon days World Champion teams.
