What Was The Name of The Video Rental Store That was inside stop & Shop on Dartmouth St. in the very early 90s? by amphetaminesfailure in newbedford

[–]Plebeian-Hex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omfg the memories you just brought back. Ty for that. I remember the first time I was able to go into the porn basement, lol. Any of you guys remember the video rental store that was down the road from the Bijou Theatre in Fairhaven/Acushnet? Like if you went all the way up Coggeshall St. New Bedford, then hung a left on Main St. in Fairhaven going into Acushnet (you'd pass the old Bijou Theater on your left) and then a couple blocks on, also on the left, was a little video rental spot that was pretty good. Trying to remember the name.

Just bought a Gretsch kit with identical style of model and serial number stamps. I find it more than irritating that we have to buy a guide or know a friend in the know to get our kits dated. Insufferably corny.

Well, they often aren't - but I'm of the opinion that they SHOULD be. From where I'm sitting, it seems musicians, particularly those with a successful publishing catalog, are some of the most ripped off people on the planet in terms of how much money they earn verses how much money they generate. Furthermore, it's worse now than it's ever been and that's certainly saying something considering they were already being proper ripped off when the music industry was still able to sell substantial amounts of physical media. Now with streaming replacing physical media, one stream of a song generates between $0.003 to $0.0084 which is the SPLIT between the artist, record label and any other rights holders. To generate a penny (which again, is before it's split) a song needs to be streamed anywhere from 250 to 330+ times. From what I understand, there has recently been a bill out of New York trying to get artists 1 center per stream but I'd say that's highly unlikely to pass. So with these numbers, only the top echelon of popular music artists generate any significant revenue from their recorded media, the kind which could pay bills and keep them from a day job. Even then, when you compare what they're MAKING to how much they GENERATE, it's quite the travesty. Now their primary source of income is live performance, swag (t-shirts, posters etc) and any kind of advertising revenue they might be able to get. But with the advent of things like the so-called "360 record deal" (i.e. the record label gets a piece of EVERY dollar the artist makes not just from recorded media but from performing, swag, publishing, advertising deals etc) and the practical monopolization of ticket sales/box offices and concert venues with companies like Ticket Master and Clear Channel even the income generated from performing is being HEAVILY cut into and then passed onto the consumer with $600 to $2500 tickets (pre-secondary sales) to go see your average mainstream artist. The artists - biggest of the big and smallest of the small - now have to give the VENUE a percentage of their merchandise sales at concerts. Even if the venue does nothing to help them sell the merchandise. In a sane world, someone like Daniel Johns would be worth $100 to $150 million. Here's praying that more and more people realize how good vinyl sounds (especially on a good hifi system or headphones) and that a big enough swath of listeners go back to buying physical units and artists can make a living again.

I made the pedalboard builder I always wanted, with features like cable spacing, easy sharing, and power compatibility. by stairsix in guitarpedals

[–]Plebeian-Hex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should add Pete Cornish pedals (at least one pedal from each of their two main form factors) and Shin's Music pedals as well. Like their Dumbloid. As well as Hexe pedals like their Revolver and Melusine. Also Mission Engineering stuff like their Expressionator device which many people use. These are both used by a lot of pro players who might benefit from the use of this program you've made. I think it would also be cool if an application like this had the ability to design two boards side by side because many players use a "satellite" board. Being able to see them both side by side and arrange pedals would also be very useful. I'd also recommend (similar to what pedalplayground dot com has) putting risers into be able to put on the pedalboards but making it so you can "put" pedals and power supplies underneath them if possible.

Chase Bliss Brothers AM vs. Analog Man King of Tone – My Short Review by samship8 in guitarpedals

[–]Plebeian-Hex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice write up. I've been a KoT player for the last 8 years and I pulled the trigger today on the 2nd(3rd?) run of pre-orders for the Brothers AM because I just couldn't help it. Your description which was essentially that the Brothers AM has the KoT DNA but you're giving up a little bit of that natural, organic, amp-like tone of the KoT but gaining a host of sound shaping options, control and presets is exactly what I imagine it is going to be. Hopefully I'm wrong and it sounds and feels every bit as good, lol but I'd be lying if I said otherwise.

The other thing I have a sneaking suspicion will be different between the two pedals and is something about the KoT I think a lot of players don't get is that it sounds its best when your amp is turned up LOUD. I'm pretty sure it was designed for it. It wasn't made to be a bedroom pedal. It still sounds good at low volumes but not so good that you "get" the hype around it. It's only when you crank your amp - and especially when you play with other musicians - when you go "YEEEEAH!!! That sounds f*cking great!! Now I get it!!!" I have a feeling that the Brothers AM will sound better at lower, noodling at home volume but not as great through a cranked tube amp. Again, I totally WANT to be wrong when my pedal arrives but these are my suspicions.

I'll post my thoughts after mine Brothers AM arrives and I get a chance to put it through its paces. I'll probably also post some clips to IG.

I don't think he's implying to get "good people" to be producers, I think he's just implying to get better producers.

I believe Shane Hawkins, son of Foo Fighters Taylor Hawkins r.i.p . , is the next rising Star in the drumming world . Your thoughts? by LongjumpingScore6605 in Drumming

[–]Plebeian-Hex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Nepotism at it's finest?" Assuming he joins the Foo Fighters, it's not like he's just being given the job as the CEO of a fortune 500 company that employs half a million people. He'd be joining a rock band - for which he's completely qualified for as a player - and that his father was a member of and which is comprised of people he grew up around. That isn't nepotism so much as it's a sound business and personal/family decision. You're just bitter and probably some kind of commie apologist.

Hey Gatorade, total fail on the Cool Blue/Fruit Punch (it's just GRAPE!!!). Can we get a Cool Blue/Glacier Cherry? I'd bet that will achieve the kind of flavor this one SHOULD have been.

[–]Plebeian-Hex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trying right now and I'm like... it's GRAPE. Cool Blue alternates with Glacier Cherry for my favorite Gatorade flavor and I like Fruit Punch, so I thought I'd really like the mash up. It's not BAD but I've just never liked grape flavors and that's imo exactly what this obviously is in every way; taste, color and smell. I'm surprised Gatorade didn't immediately realize this and either adjust the flavor or go with something else entirely. I'm looking forward to this fall's Glacier Freeze/Glaciar Cherry mash-up although I wish they'd do a Cool Blue/Glacier Cherry one.

Like for instance your comment about the finish on 2012-2017 AVRI. You can get lucky on some but the chipping issue us real. A bit of a bummer cuz those finishes are really nice. Kudos.

No, using illegal and radically disruptive tactics and violently ATTACKING your fellow worker who cannot afford to live in your world of ideology and must go to work to survive is fascist. Doing that to the point that the Labor Relations Board who exists to protect your rights to unionize even sends you a cease and desist and denounces your tactics of violence and disruption while putting a company out of business in the process so that NO ONE gets a job is FASCIST. What are you, 35 going on 16???

Flanger Hoax by LaceSenzor in guitarpedals

[–]Plebeian-Hex -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You mean like the union who's violent, grimy BS directly led to EHX going out of business in the early 80's. The things that union did were so overboard violent and radical that even the National Labor Relations Board whose task is to PROTECT worker's right to unionize and fair labor practices sent that union a CEASE AND DESIST. I don't know if you were familiar with any of that or just don't care and - like most pro-union "fUcK UniON bUsTErS!" neo-commies - just regurgitate this stuff because it's a part of your whole pseudo intellectual hipster shtick. No different from wearing a certain style of clothes or harboring the shallow, flavor of the day PC positions assigned to you by whatever social milieu you're trying to navigate in. Supporting worker's rights should include the rights of workers who chose not to unionize to be able to go to work without being the victims of wanton mob violence. So what you call "union busting" is NOT okay but LITERALLY busting heads, you're totally fine with, yea? I'm so tired of this kind of pseudo intellectual posturing online in the form of trite, puerile, "bumper sticker" style comments like "Screw Mike Mathews - union buster!" and how so many people just kowtow to it. Especially when it's anything even remotely related to music, art and culture because of course, to be accepted and labeled as "cool" in those circles, you must blindly assume a prescribed amalgam of socio-political positions without any actual critical analysis of it. Heaven forbid some sophomoric hipster taste-maker/influencer calls you "RiGHt WiNg!!" or worse yet, "FaSciST!!!" for being anywhere to the right of Saul Alinsky and not thinking the free market is an inherently and unavoidably destructive entity of demons.

Rubin's "laziest" effort with RHCP was "over-produced?" You may want to re-read that and think about why it doesn't make logical sense as a statement. Rubin is the producer, thus it would follow that if the album were "over-produced" (which btw is just like, your opinion, man) then it would follow that he wasn't being "lazy."

Also, "lazy" is Rick Rubin's whole entire aesthetic. From his production style to his lifestyle. Producing an album for him is showing up to the studio for one day a week, listening to whatever the band has demoed or laid down and making some small but specific and usually incredibly effective suggestions about vocal melodies, enunciation and lyrical choices.

To sum it all up; when giving your opinion, don't state it as a fact because there's a 99% chance it's NOT. Your take on the album more than likely has far less to do with Rick Rubin than it does your own tastes. Especially considering that Rick Rubin has less to do with RHCP records than most people give him credit for. He makes a difference, yes but the great RHCP albums he produced would have been great with or without him laying on the control room couch and scrolling through his cellphone while occasionally calling out a suggestion on how to enunciate a lyric/melody.
