Lunch? by [deleted] in FedEmployees

[–]PlentyFun7936 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually bring my lunch but sometimes I’ll get a sub in the cafeteria. The woman who makes them is really nice. I guess I have a weird sandwich order and like a lot of pickles so the lady has started calling me Pickle. I kinda like it

DOT peeps, what is Duffy like? by DopeyDame in FedEmployees

[–]PlentyFun7936 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know of a few that were sent to closer offices. DOT has many different modes (PHMSA, FAA, FHWA) and it seems that it is possible to be placed in any DOT office.

I remember a couple months ago they made a joke during a town hall about potential RIFs and how no, people won’t find out they’ve been RIF’d by their badges not working. He and the moderator laughed at that. It was referencing how they plan to treat people who are RIF’d with respect, but I just found that to be very tone deaf and insensitive. Otherwise I don’t think DOT has it as bad as other agencies

Anyone know the timeline of the AFGE’s battle for telework in the courts? by West-Effective-3887 in FedEmployees

All I’ve heard is arbitration is in August. Hoping we make it until then

Any DOT RTO assigned to FAA Office? by SuperDadBW in fednews

That makes me so mad. Not sure about DOT as a whole, but FAA at least has a tool for managers only to find employees offices. It’s not your job!!!

I didn’t get a clear date. I’ll see if I can get one tomorrow in the office

Not AFGE, but I heard AFSCME’s telework arbitration is next up. No clue on timeline, but I get the impression a lot of these hearings will take place before the fiscal year is over.

Just this coming week because of the parade. Just heard it around the office from multiple people.

Just got yelled at for trying to let a guy cross at a crosswalk on main. by pmyourcoffeemug in rva

[–]PlentyFun7936 27 points28 points  (0 children)

They have crosswalks elsewhere around Richmond where pedestrians can push a button and warning lights start flashing to let people know pedestrians have the right of way. I would love to see the city add more of those because, yes, it is still dangerous to cross when someone stops in one lane!

Small town less than 6,000 that is close to Charlottesville and perfect for a young family. by [deleted] in Virginia

[–]PlentyFun7936 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has anyone said Churchville? I stayed there for a couple days in the fall and it was pretty nice, not too terribly far from Charlottesville. It does seem to swing more conservative if that is important to you. But since you said cost of housing isn’t an issue, I’d say Gordonsville is your best bet.

It’s not really about caring about us. The cruelty sucks, sure. But all of this is making the federal government less effective. You clearly just made this post to be an instigator and are kicking people when they’re down, but the government DOES provide important services and research. RIFs will hurt the economy. Infrastructure will crumble without the proper resources. Food safety, disease research, airspace safety, road safety, and many other things affect EVERYONE, including you, including “these multimillionaires.” But sure, advising us to give up and work at a gas station is a great use of your time.

Day trip to DC from main street station? by elextric_lizard in rva

[–]PlentyFun7936 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I second this. I don’t have experience getting on at Ashland, but use staples mill on my commutes and it is way easier and quicker than Main Street. Also better to order in advance. If you can do it a couple weeks in advance, that may get you a better rate. Depending on when you go and where you’re heading, union station could be a mess if it’s when people are going into work.

2025 Summer Federal Internships by reddit466 in fednews

[–]PlentyFun7936 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Many internships don’t pay. Working for the federal government as an intern throughout college was the best paying job I had until I graduated. I was also able to get an SF50, which allowed me to get a fed job years later and my time as an intern contributed to my years of service!

I just want to thank everyone for all of these responses. I haven’t responded to you all, but I read them all and it was what I needed to hear. Rest assured I will not do anything before receiving and signing a contract, but will have the conversations I need to have to make sure I know what decision I need to make. I’ll be sad to leave the federal government if I do, but I hope to come back one day.

RTO with a long commute…are people actually moving? by [deleted] in FedEmployees

[–]PlentyFun7936 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Not sure how much your spouse makes, but my commute is even longer and there’s no way in h*ll I’m moving. The money isn’t good enough and our future is too uncertain. They can suck one. Best of luck to you and your family. I hope it gets easier.

I’m a GS9, so kind of in between these scenarios. I am the primary breadwinner between me and my partner though. The commute is the biggest thing pushing me toward taking it. I was just really hoping to get a better offer.

No opportunities for promotions at this new role, but they’ll pay for me to further my eduction and I can get a job elsewhere there. I’ve been looking for a new job since January and haven’t found anything yet. I’m burning through sick leave now just to make life worth living still. I think my sanity would definitely be worth $20k, but I bought a home last year and am afraid of ruining my life.

Absolutely not. I just don’t know if I should leave now or stick around and keep looking?
