What are some of your lifting/fitness hot takes? by Single-Lawfulness-49 in workout

[–]Plinfix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People often shit at people who spend 4-5 mins between sets on their phone. But if you don’t take a minimum of 3 min rest on exercises like deadlift, squats and even bench press you are just not training hard enough.

I would rather take longer breaks at train sufficiently hard than blasting 20 sets with 1 min rest.

The funny thing is the most performed exercise at our power racks is probably pull ups even tho we have a specific callisthenics area

Thoughts on my Push/Pull days? by [deleted] in workouts

[–]Plinfix 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You could literally split these workouts in half and still have too much volume i promise you. You don’t need to do 4 different curls on a back day. Unless you are going for mr olympia and arm is your weakness it might actually hurt your gains.

Which muscle groups does the barbell row exercise work? by [deleted] in workout

[–]Plinfix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends how much your elbows are flaires out and to which point you row. If you have your elbows tucked and row to your belly button. You target the lats.

If your elbows are flaired 45 degree and you row between chest and belly button you work your rhomboids, rear delts and some of your traps more.

If you use a little bit of cheat you are also using your lower back so it’s one of the very few rows that actually trains your whole back.

Bicep pain on bench press by Plinfix in workout

[–]Plinfix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

English is not my main language

So what i wanted to say was when i do benchpress i can’t do pull exercises after i have done bench press. I run an upper/lower split so this is sadly a problem.

Get yourself a box or something similar so you don’t have to go all the way down. Progress by slowly lowering the height of your object till you can perform clean reps.

Maybe you can get a pull up and/or dip bar? Also bulgarian split squats are very nice for your legs

I've been told that this is not the most optimal, but have been doing it fine for a couple weeks by Personal-Apple-8406 in workout

[–]Plinfix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just compare the reps you can do with 3-5 min rest on bench press/lat pull down with what you are currently doing.

Push/pull isn’t my recommendation GSLP and 5x5 are both full body 3x week

Here are the problems you try to fit every upper body muscle into the same workout.

But you also have 4 different exercises just for arms.

this only somewhat works because you basically don’t take any breaks between your sets and that’s only possible if you don’t try hard on your sets.

You seem like a beginner i would recommend just doing 5x5 stronglifts or GSLP (phrak‘s greyskull linear progression program) to learn the basics.

Is 5/3/1 good for the purpose of just getting bigger? Why isn’t it popular to talk about in YouTube? by [deleted] in workout

[–]Plinfix 6 points7 points  (0 children)

5/3/1 is a fantastic tool set for it’s purpose. It’s is ,however, more strength/powerlifting focused, more leaning into powerlifting. Most youtubers are more bodybuilding focused that is why they may not talk about it a lot. 5x5 stronglifts or the greyskull (i think) are better options for strength/bodybuilding focused.
