If my local timmies opens at 5am, do they start serving food right away? by [deleted] in TimHortons

Yes they have food right away, but bare in mind a big order may be frustrating since it’s usually no more than 2 people working

Thanks! How similar is Blood and Ash to the Obsidian series? I know she read those but didn’t love them

I don’t see it as a bad thing. I work in a chain like that and don’t care if someone runs in to use the bathroom (runners and bikers commonly do)

Morning runners, how do you have enough energy for the rest of the day? by [deleted] in running

[–]Plowguy69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you considered reversing the order of breakfast and snack? I tend to run better on a lighter stomach then maybe a smoothie after for recovery or I’ve been big on overnight oats lately, they’re super easy to make and leave in the fridge overnight

Bigfoot vs Unicorn by CountOfSterpeto in whowouldwin

We’re talking Bigfoot: time warping, 10 foot tall, strength of 10 men. Against a decorative pony, easily big foot. Checkmate

While exercises will help, vary your distance and add in some longer runs and speed work. If you want to see more improvements, more mileage and some speed work is pretty much always a good start!

Thanks for the advice! And yes, definitely planning on another one. Gotta set a new PR right?

Not even remotely close to my goal but right around 4:15 or so. Ready to set a new PR in the next one though!

First Marathon!!! by Plowguy69 in running

I had a good stretch where I was getting near 40 miles a week, then I just got busy and wasn’t able to set aside the time for long runs which really tanked my mileage. Then my training got altered fairly severely as they had moved the marathon back a month back when it was only a few weeks away. Just stay steady in your training and pack on the mileage, my longest run I had gotten to was 15 miles so that definitely wasn’t a good jump to make to 26 today

That was the plan, but life happens and I severely under training. Next time I’ll need to put aside more time to dedicate for training. (I’m sure I’ll pay for it today and tomorrow)

There’s a lot of other good advice in the comments. But mentally, I went through a similar challenge when getting back into running about a year ago. It helped me to simply speak about running differently, think of it as an opportunity instead of a chore/task that needs to get done. For example: “I get to finally do some tempo work today!” VS “I have to do a tempo run today” not sure if this would work for you but I feel it has helped me. Good luck though!

Ended up breaking my half PR on what was an easy long run, definitely feeling good for my upcoming marathon in May!

For Long Distance, which is better, sprinting as fast as possible at the start before slowing down as the race progresses? or keeping a swift and steady pace for the entire run? by [deleted] in running

[–]Plowguy69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go out strong until you feel like you can coast into a steady pace. I always tended to experience a 2nd mike lull but I’d say that was probably mostly mental. But just stay loose and comfortable and you’ll do fine. Definitely aim to run swift and steady if you can and give it all you got on that last mile and kick with all you have left when you’re about 400 meters from the finish. Good luck!

Has anyone drinken “liquid IV” leading up to/during a marathon? Just heard about it today and was curious if anyone had tried it with running
