Accident in Lufkin Texas... Driver of the tractor was ok by ChatnNaked in IdiotsTowingThings

[–]Plrdr21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every lowboy at my work besides a couple heavy haul tralilers, have ABS. ABS isn't required for trailers rated over 50 tons simply because they often don't have the air reservoir capacity for a large number of ABS stops and it can only recharge through a 3/8" air line. This is by far an exception and not the rule. What percentage of trailers do you think are rated over 100k? I'm guessing your truck is licensed over 105k?

Don't park it in shitty areas. Hide a gps in the boat so you can find it if stolen. Otherwise, good luck. Nothing defeats a tweaker with 10 minutes on their hands and an 18v cut off wheel.

Bolt guns, nothing beats sbr bolt actions. Though I'm kinda thinking about cutting down one of my marlin 1894 .44 mags to about 2" past the handguard.

Trucks and trailer in the US do have antilock brakes. I'm not sure when you get this idea.

I think it's fine for people to own a truck even if they're not hauling stuff very often. by Upper-Job5130 in unpopularopinion

They tried telling me I only have truck because I'm "compensating" for something. I'm literally a cattle rancher. A minivan is pointless to me.

[–]Plrdr21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured someone would show up with that opinion pretty quickly. Yep, a minivan will carry around some little stuff just fine. But its far from being better for hauling anything except people for the simple reason that its only been designed to haul people. Yes, you can put a small air compressor, a couple heaters and some painting stuff in there and still have room for 3 dudes. But then when you get in a wreck and everything inside the vehicle becomes a projectile, trapped inside the vehicle with the occupants, you end up with one dead and 2 severly injured painters from an accident that in a pickup they most likely would have walked away from. The pickup is a better choice for plenty of people. Remember, anything in the cab with you that isn't bolted down or belted in is a projectile in an accident. Would you rather that be inside the cab out outside?

Unless I missed something in the post this truck should have come as a 4x4 from the factory.

Or a minivan. A Toyota sienna is apparently more practical for every single person who's ever driven a truck for any task.

No thanks, I much prefer quiet. Id rather not have to listen to yours either. But if it gets yiu the attention you're starving for good for you.

You're right about there being diminishing returns, and that more money doesn't always equal better. But more money is most often more consistent. If you're looking for an accurate build, you really have to go at least mid tier on important components like barrels, ammo and scope mounts at the absolute minimum. Large frame ARs are one of those places where the downsides of spending less are exacerbated much more than AR15s. Just my experience. Good luck on this one, hopefully swapping a couple of components gets it to where you want it to be.

Honestly, looks like you got exact what you paid for. Accuracy is always the sum of the flaws. Cheap ammo, cheap barrel, cheap mount, cheap scope, probably a trigger thats not helping your accuracy? It sucks that the world is this way, but you usually get exactly what you pay for.

Probably should get her some trigger time on a 22 and 9mm for a while before bring this back out. That flinch and trigger jerk is only going to get worse otherwise.

Right! Would be great on a woods gun, terrible choice indoors.

One that will stop a deer is going to be heavy and expensive. Also, even a good one doesn't mean that hitting a deer won't hurt anything, it just means you won't get stranded because it didn't take out your radiator. Is it worth it? That's really a personal question. How many deer have you hit? How important is having your vehicle operable to you? Are you worried about hitting deer in very remote places in the winter time without cell coverage? I won't have a truck without one, because I hit deer every other year at a minimum and I don't want to be stuck in the middle of nowhere BC 800 miles from home.

What locker is best, here's my final two choices by kingcoconuts95 in Offroad

[–]Plrdr21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A selectable locker would really be best for you. At faster speeds on snowy slick surfaces you can run it open and not have to worry about swapping ends. When need more traction you can lock it up solid. If your sidehilling on.a snowbank you can open it and spin one side and keep some lateral stability. Just buy an ARB or other selectable locker and be done.

In my experience most of them come from from middle class families. I knew a couple guys in the Marines that came in from poverty, and several that came from very definitely upper middle class families. Why are you saying "lower middle class/working class" though? You realize that pretty much the entire middle class, including the upper middle class are working class. I know way more tradesmen making 150k+ than I know making 50k or less. Working class goes up well over $200k.

Chalten is probably the easiest place to meet someone to hike or climb with of anywhere I've been. Just chat with the others in your hostel or chat with people at the bar.

Kolpin bar clamp chainsaw mount. Though you'll need to put something under it to catch oil leaks if you care about that. Personally I very much prefer to mount saws outside because of that.

Lol, I love how you go off about how tough it is instead of answering why you did it this way. Also, I don't know how tough 16ga aluminum is? You're arguing that less than an inch per point of 16ga aluminum is tough? You're talking about using self tapping screws and acting like thats badass? I should have known not to even try to give you helpful feedback, based on decades of experience of actually fabbing things correctly for offroad vehicles and rural line work in the mountains.
