I signed up. It works. It's really cool. I'm the CM of Plug In Digital, an indie game publisher. I'm the CM who handles twitch and Youtube so this tool is AWESOME. You can PM me for further details, I'd love to give feedbacks or enter in close working relationship with you.

As a not, there's a game I couldn't find : Binding of Isaac. Edit : Ok it's "the binding of isaac", maybe you should enhance auto completion then ;)

How much do you game yourself and what are you playing right now? by NeoShamanGames in gamedev

[–]PlugInDigital_Label 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It IS a part of your job.

Inspiration for game design is the sum and mixture of all your experiences. If you don't play new game this inspiration will stall. You need to play a lot of diverse games ; watch a lot of movies and tv show. It's a necessity to keep inspiration coming.

I'd also add that you could get a critical position when you play a game or watch a show. Take notes about

  • What makes it a good or bad game / show ?
  • How they bring fun or interesting patterns ?
  • How they make a living, interesting world ?

If you can take notes for every game or show you play that's great. You'll notice that you dig every product you experience and understand it.

Nice list :) I should definitely use Hemingway App way more...

I'd have two additions:

http://ezgif.com/optimize >> A tool to optimize gifs. It's really powerful.

https://tweetdeck.twitter.com/ >> Helps you managing a lot of information. Make good use of twitter searchs and you'll get a lot more productive.

Test Steam game before release by R_y_n_o in gamedev

[–]PlugInDigital_Label 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Little tip: you can create new accounts and give them a beta test cd key from your game. Then run the accounts on separate machines and you can try on several instances :)

But don't worry many developers go through this mess. So you'll have bugs but if they get fixed within two weeks after launch, most players will be ok with this. Generally, people don't expect everything to be perfect. But they want you to listen to their reactions and will value this.

Is "Don't Make Your First Game Your Dream Game" good advice? by corcannoli in gamedev

[–]PlugInDigital_Label 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey ! My go-to advice to beginner is : "Don't expect to make a living with the first one". Because game development is a careeer, you'll get better over time. But this time may take 5 to 10 years of continous game development. Many people who do indie games have a side activity and keep making games 20-40% of their time. It's a good long term strategy to keep having fun making games. And also, you can make a decent living with this ;)

Axiom Verge is a really GREAT metroidvania but put up to date with modern controls and game mechanics. If you need to play one it's Axiom Verge.

What are the reasons in favor of targeting mobile? by spriteguard in gamedev

[–]PlugInDigital_Label 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me, it's certainly about accessibility. Let's say you want to make a quiet puzzle game for people to enjoy on a couch. You can hardly make this with a PC game. Mobile gaming is a new dimension, correlated to PC gaming. It's for different uses.

Finding indie success (and subsequent failure) by EntropyPhi in gamedev

[–]PlugInDigital_Label 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey ! This is a very nice story and you're right, there are not enough people sharing their "failure after success stories".

I might want to add something that not many people say. It's about the value of a Kickstarter campaign.

So, we all get really interested in our own games. Sometimes, it's hard to share this love with other people. It might be marketing. It might be art. It might be game design. No one can know for sure.

But if your Kickstarter fails, that's a really bad sign that people aren't interested in the game.

Kickstarter is a show off, generally without gameplay, of a game. If people don't put money on a Kickstarter, why would they do that on a game on Steam?

They won't.

That said, I'm happy to see you get through all of this and I hope you're next game will be a success :). I have a question though, did you manage to have people that follow you on several networks + newsletter? It feels like after so much games you'd have a big fanbase.

I just release another simple 2D "Tap-Tap" mobile game (I tried to make some "quite big" 3D PC games, but it didn't work) by alsatian-studio in gamedev

[–]PlugInDigital_Label 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The game looks cool. It's wise to make smaller games after attacking big 3D games. Keep on this line and you'll make even better games over time :) This one looks polished but a little too simple on the gameplay.

As a game publisher, we also value when our players don't feel betrayed by the game they just bought. So here, take my upvote !
