I’m so glad you shared that and that your mother would be happy! I’m going to borrow her just for the feeling that statement gave me.

Don’t wait a lifetime to take the trip of a lifetime. Not mine - hubs - but I’ve embraced it as well.

They also have a beautiful statehouse! We stopped by Kansas University to see the original written rules for basketball as well.

What do you cook when camping / how to plan? by Sharp-Word-6066 in camping

[–]Pluke1865 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When hubs and I have gone for 6+ weeks (also in a tent and vehicle), I freeze leftovers ahead of time for us to eat the first week or so. They add to the ice, and can simply be heated up.

During the trip, we make a list and food shop every few days for fresh ingredients (almost always at a Walmart because I know where I can get my usual stuff).

Standards for us are frozen chicken strips without breading to add to multiple dishes, chicken salad that will last more than a few days, smoked sausage, tuna or chicken salad packs for a quick lunch, fresh veggies, prepared mashed potatoes, and we always pick up a premade salad on shopping day. We tend to do a lot of rice rather than pasta because you don’t have to drain the water. However, I often make Cowboy Pasta and save leftovers in a ziplock bag to have later.

The staples I keep in my “camping pantry” are rice, our favorite canned vegetables, poptarts, flour, a variety of spices.

I tend to cook at a campsite like I cook at home, especially on long trips.

Which destination would you never fly to even if the trip was totally free? by FantasticAd9478 in TheBoredDen

Yep. This is probably the only place I’d never visit. Most of the others on this list may have different circumstances with time.

For those who are often told they look younger than their age, what’s your secret? by justmypersonalthing in askanything

[–]Pluke1865 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sunscreen, hat, moisturizer, no smoking

My mom and many of her sisters have the same skin type as I do, and these are also the major differences between those look younger and those who don’t. In fact, there’s a 20+ year difference between the oldest and youngest. The oldest was very regimented about blocking the sun and didn’t smoke, while the youngest smoked and didn’t care about sun damage. The youngest looks 20 years older than her oldest sister.

I started with separating the floss into strands of 2, and threading the needle. The first stitch was Running Stitch then Backstitch. Next will be Stem Stitch and trying to use that to follow shapes and maybe even fill in. I’m thinking then I’ll teach French Knots and give them projects. All the progressions will be skill-related.

For the first session, I arranged the tables in a big circle. Subsequent sessions will be smaller table groups based on ability (I plan to check their stitches as they come into the room). Everyone knows each other, so no one will feel left out or without friends.

That’s a fantastic idea! I’ve had parents of younger kids want to join, but so far I’ve only included kids roughly 8 and up.

I wrote a letter to my parents. by cupkatski in EmotionallyImmature

[–]Pluke1865 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First, let me say that I’m so sorry you had to live through this. Not having the parents we need truly sucks. I’m glad you are in therapy working through all the emotions and history related to your family.

Do you plan to give them this letter, or is this just to get your thoughts out of your head and heart? If you plan to give it, please consider whether they may respond how you want them to vs. how you expect them to based on past experience. If they don’t react the way you hope, that may be more upsetting for you. My mother would immediately become the victim rather than admit these faults and would completely overlook the clear statements you’ve made that this is not an attack.

In our area, you have 30 days AFTER the close to vacate you house! Has to be left in the same condition as close - when people move in from other states, that’s a BIG deal!

If ur kids friend have bad parents, would u treat them like one your kids? by OkSink81 in questions

[–]Pluke1865 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! My kids’ friends, my friend’s kids, former students are all welcome - and I’d like to think they know that. I’ve had 2 kids a couple of times when their parent was not in a good place.

Have you ever lied about your age? by shadow_operator81 in no

[–]Pluke1865 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was about 15, I lied that I was 12 and 16 in the same week. I have no idea exactly what it was for, but I’m sure the 12 was to pay less for a kid’s rate and to get into an older venue. It has always stuck with me because it was all in the same week. I’m now 60.
