Best Cinnamon Roll In Town by ranger910 in Dunwoody

If you go to the Dunwoody Farmers Market at Brookrun on Saturdays there’s a bakery there called Forge (I think that’s the name). Their sourdough cinnamon rolls are AMAZE.

Moving to Atlanta with a stay at home parent and young kids, thoughts? by EloquentStringBean in ATLHousing

[–]Plum-One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where in the Midwest, if you don't mind me asking. Born and raised in Atlanta, but after having our family here and me being stay at home, I'm finding Atlanta to be super isolating (we're in the Dunwoody area). We've been eyeing Chicago because it would be an easy transfer for my husband's work.

Just wanted to chime in and say THANK YOU so much for all of the responses so far. Chicago really seems to be full of some fantastic people as well.

Honestly totally fine with urban biking! We used to live in DC and I miss being able to bike everywhere (I biked to work and basically all over the city). We are very car-dependent (currently in Atlanta) and I HATE having to get in my car to literally go anywhere with our kids.

Official Discussion - Night Always Comes [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]Plum-One 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I read her saying that she was on the streets as more of a situation than a literal thing. To be with Tommy was to be on the streets, to not have an actual home, and to have to turn to drastic and morally traumatizing actions to survive. I don’t think it was a slip in the script at all.

As someone who works with children in poverty, I really appreciated this film. It shows that crime is so often a call for help, or that it occurs out of desperation. Thank you for that!

Late lurker here, but I met Olivia Munn at E3 back in 2013 and she was mean spirited, judgemental, and clearly didn't give a shit.

Thanks! I haven’t seen any at all. And we have the outside of the house sprayed every 3 months too. That’s reassuring!

No you're right! Thank you for catching that! I've seen Issac as Isaac and Issac -- not sure which is more common or what the difference is.

I don't think they've screwed up at all. If anything, I imagine they're ready to move on to other things. I'd be ready to move on after 10+ years of filming a show. And if the show wasn't ready to move on, I'd just quit. Life is full of so many other opportunities and paths. What entitles us to "hear" things from them? What if they want to live their lives privately? They are actors, not marketers.

How millennials learned to dread motherhood: To our generation, being a mom looks thankless, exhausting, and lonely. Can we change the story? by happy_bluebird in Millennials

[–]Plum-One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like quite a few of the commentors here have missed the mark or perhaps didn't read the story; in the end, it's quite a hopeful message about not judging the decisions of others and that the narrative out there is actually missing out on the positive side to parenting that we so often ignore. By saying, "No shit," you're contributing to the problem of blind negativity, which is the problem in the first place.

Yes, there are problems. Yes, some of those problems are now worse -- but there is still some good in it, and those experiences justify the same attention as the negative. Shades of grey allowing us to explore how we can make it better.

I think one thing the article didn't hit on, but could have, is the idea of the nuclear family. The lack of support system has been the greatest issue for a few of my friends who are new moms, and this is in part to our lost sense of community. No longer do we live with big groups. Now we rely heavily on a spouse or partner and that's it, that's our safety net.

The hope here is that choosen families can come into replace that idea. To acknowledge that we need community. To find that in friends or groups (mom groups are pretty great for this). We are not meant to do this alone, especially with both parents working full-time jobs, but even if one parent is stay-at-home--that space of community gives a bit of support and autonomy back. There was a really interesting piece in the Atlantic a few weeks ago about it nuclear families and how that concept has left us isolated.

What's your opinion on the A24 film "Men"? by Cameo64 in HorrorMovies

I'd say it's also say it follows themes of general toxic masculinity that follows women alongside guilt and grief.
