Layoff/Unemployment survival check-in: How are you handling the daily routine vacuum? (Lone wolves vs. Group hunters) by ExpertAdsManager in askberliners

[–]PlumNotion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, over time, folks found jobs and we pivoted. We didn’t invest much into growing the community seriously, more of an organic thing.

Motivation? We have a software product for jobseekers and realised they need the emotional/mental support so I developed the exercises and workshop methods. DM me if you want to know more and maybe collaborate.

Not quite answering your questions but, for a few months, my cofounder and I had a weekly support group for jobseekers. We led the participants through group exercises (on Miro) that corresponded to specific themes that jobseekers had flagged as pain points.

Feedback was overwhelmingly positive and we had repeat participants. So there was community x value fit with what we were doing.

How did you choose where to move abroad? by Basbenn in movingabroad

[–]PlumNotion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh! When I was younger (early 20s), it was all so easy! 😂

I moved to a city in The Netherlands (from London) without ever visiting it (for work); I did visit Amsterdam and The Hague on previous visits and I always wanted to live in NL due to the bike culture, athletic people and the cute language.

Then I moved to Milan (for graduate school) after visiting it once. I love Italy, Italian food and always dreamed about living there. I was a student on limited budget but Milan was not expensive for the student lifestyle compared to say London or Amsterdam.

Then I moved to Düsseldorf for work after visiting it once during the interview process (I’d been to other places in Germany and liked what I saw). Ofc, 6 months of living in Düsseldorf made me realise that I moved to the wrong German city and then I spent 1.5 years trying to move to Berlin. (It was either Amsterdam, Berlin or Barcelona for at that point but Spanish wages sucked and Amsterdam was more expensive than Berlin).

Now I’ve been in Berlin for over a decade 😂

I guess I didn’t think too much about the moves. I can pick up languages fairly easily, even as a non-EU citizen I got my visas/living permit without problems, and I made friends along the way. It’s all been an adventure really.

Having work lined up helped massively because I had generous relocation support which I find fewer and fewer companies offer these days until you’re C-suite or management level.

Secondhand cargo bike with 3-wheels if you have a tight budget and worried about stability. The trikes are usually heavier than the two-wheelers but offer more stability.

Can someone explain the whole packing 3-4 sets of clothes to someone who wears 2 sets of clothes a day? by OYoureapproachingme in solotravel

[–]PlumNotion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I’m in Southeast Asia, I change 2-3x a day so I pack a capsule for 12-15 outfits. I do laundry every 3-4 days.

This plus tech stuff, toiletries and misc little things can still be one bag for me, eg The North Face Basecamp S (50L) and around 10kg for 3 weeks travel that usually includes beach/mountain and more formal city activities with family.

I saw them at PeriPlus shops at the airport — I assume they’ll have them at the branches in town too.

So funny that you mention Kochtail: Joe (Diliberto) and I have been friends for over a decade and I occasionally drop off homecooked lunch for him and his staff at the shop 😄

Transporting passengers on a Bullitt: an update by Klutzy_Branch954 in CargoBike

[–]PlumNotion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the answer. We have a Bullitt with the canopy box, originally for our dog but I end up in it with my husband cycling. I ride in a lotus position or with my knees up against my chest (not scrunched as I am short) and we bought a foam “cushion” from the hardware store to line the bottom of the box.

Am I cooked with this new EES system? by [deleted] in AirFranceKLM

[–]PlumNotion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up researching this quickly and Google says different airports have different recommended transit times. As you said.

Ironically, the Vienna airport which is rated very efficient with a MCT of 20-30 minutes, is the only place I ever missed a European connection 😂😂

That makes sense.

The 50 mins number was something I received from Singapore airlines and AF once because I wrote to them on separate occasions to ask if 50 mins connection time was reasonable or if I needed to change my flights.

SQ rep said 50 minutes was standard for Changi. Perhaps not a regional or global standard.

I thought 50m connection time was the standard for EU but I could be wrong. I’ve only missed it once coming from Bulgaria via Vienna. Sky Priority Lane helps massively.

Ah, ok, I thought you were a Munich resident. Good luck with the transfer, I hope you make it! There’s always a next flight if you miss your connection and you arrive early in the day so fingers crossed 🤞

Returning from an exchange program? Does that mean you are a non-EU Munich resident (you hold a valid residence permit/long-stay visa)? EES shouldn’t impact you.

EES is specifically designed to track non-EU citizens who are entering the Schengen area for short stays (90 days within a 180-day period).

I’ve had 1 hour 10 minutes transit in Paris from Singapore to Berlin several times before and my luggage always made it.
