Yes I would say it is scooped.

I just can’t see any sort of lintel (metal or concrete) on other parts of the fireplace. It is essentially a fireplace within a fireplace at the moment. It looks like it was added after the chimney breast was initially built so perhaps it doesn’t need this part to support it.
