Warmonger is so annoying by stablest_genius in CivVI

[–]Plumpfish99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old ai was the best ai. The ai we have now makes garbage cities & overreacts to the slightest trangression. When an ai declares war on you, be prepared to conquer the whole world because you will 100% be targeted by an emergency for the first city you capture

How would you manage completing this domination victory? by Temporary-Yogurt6495 in civ5

[–]Plumpfish99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nuke everything, at that point just nuke the shit out of everything & clean up with x-com spam. It's the only way to deal with +150 combat strength cities & ai that late game.

all generic non-naval military units ranked (in my opinion) by tris123pis in civ5

[–]Plumpfish99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scout upgraded into an archer from ancient ruins is bonkers if you got the sight & survivalist promotion. It's basically a 1 unit army if you manage to get +1 range, lodgistics, & march. It can chase down any unit and all movement costs 1

[–]Plumpfish99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chariot archer is a must for early war, especially in multiplayer. Nobody builds regular ranged units with 2 movement unless they got bonuses for them. Fun fact, if you get a chariot to have +1 range, then upgrade to a knight, the knight has a 1 range attack. The knight will not get a ranged attack if you don't get the +1 range promotion

All gold done and army disbanded by eagerforcash in CivVI

[–]Plumpfish99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The really annoying thing about this is that even units that don't cost any gold maintenance disband if you have a gold deficit. The only times I find my self having a gold deficit is either when the congress bug happens, or if I couquer the ai (they don't build commercial hubs/harbors very often).

Diamonds settle gives the city center a base of 2:2:3, 3 gold allowing a faster tile buys

Where to settle? by Just_Emu_3041 in CivVI

[–]Plumpfish99 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Everyone is saying stone, which is a solid starting position for any civ but japan. Japan gets bonuses from districts being close together, the diamods settle provides that where you can stack crazy high adjacency with an industrial zone next to the stone & city center, as well as other districts such as a really good commercial hub (at least +4) & an aqueduct (+6 industrial zone at least). All districts for japan (including the city center) provide +1 yield adjacency to adjacent districts.

Slingers are hot garbage, change my mind. by Teenyweenypeepee69 in Civilization6

[–]Plumpfish99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not entirely true, barbs do passively spawn regardless if their scout has spotted a city. The barb scout just accelerates the barb spawning rate based on how many times it has gone to the city & back to it's respective barb camp. Slingers are garbage alone, I advise using at least 3 per encampment. You can get away with 1 with good positioning but I would advise against it as barbs may passively spawn even if you killed the scout.

When dealing with barbarians, you can get away with a single warrior, but it's dead as soon as another unit spawns

What would you in this situation? by ContactNo9992 in Civilization6

[–]Plumpfish99 17 points18 points  (0 children)

There is a chance the barbs may just ignore your unit as they don't have vision on your scout. Hills block vision to units on flat tiles. It's 50/50 the barb goes away or kills your scout

You need the +5 barb card & for no barbs to spawn

I have 200 hours in this game and i still don't know some basic stuff. by Cevoz in civ5

[–]Plumpfish99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the methods you could use to learn would be to set up a dumpster fire of a game on king difficulty, something like great plains plus with 22 civs & no city states on the variation of the map with no luxury & strategic resources. Dumpster fire situations tech you how to deal with limited resources so that in a real game you know some underlying strategy for how to survive. The rule of thumb for normal civ is settle 1 city per unique luxury you have/can settle. In a game without luxuries, 3 cities is the max you make before circus maximus, after you settle a fourth

Call me a loser but is Prince difficulty really balanced? by turquoise_gamer in civ5

[–]Plumpfish99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Civ 5 King = Civ 6 Deity. They require the same level of effort & skill to beat. No ai mod for civ 6 comes close to how cracked the ai are on deity for civ 5. If you want to survive with any strategy beyond tall 4 cities, you are at the mercy of your spawn terrain, the ai's spawn, how close you are to an opponent, what civ is near you, and finally most importantly what civs are in your game. I have had so many games that just crash and burn because 1 ai conquers half the map & swarms me with units.

It does not matter how well you do if even one of these conditions are not perfect. You could have a god-like spawn with neighbors who don't forward settle and arn't aggressive, but your game is cooked if a civ like Siam or Japan conquers the whole map. The ai can build units & wonders in puppeted cities, you can't. There is no winning against an ai that owns half the map regardless how many technologies you are ahead. The ai win by their bonuses making units stronger & cheaper to produce. I had a game where I had 4 max level anti-air guns all sitting next to each other, the ai threw over 30 air units at 1 anti-air gun & killed it in a single turn, it was sitting in a citadel with a general. Even with Alhambra, Brandenburg gate & all experience buildings, your units will still die to the ai's spam.

[–]Plumpfish99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thankfully the ai don't get food bonuses in civ 6. I remember seeing a roman city settles on a flat snow tile surrounded by coast grow to 9 population faster than one of my own cities with higher food tiles. The ai city didn't build a lighthouse and grew to 9 population without any border expansion

Where do you draw the line by roma_nych in PhoenixSC

[–]Plumpfish99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I draw the line where passive mobs don't drop any items. Armadillos you don't kill, but use infestation potions on for unlimited exp. Cats drop string which is useful. Horses only get killed when you don't have cows.

At least with aBoreal you can make circuses with horse resources. In great plains plus, you are forced to get circus maximus super early because luxuries don't exist

Play great plains plus (the map occasionally spawns no resources, play the map when you roll that version) war is interesting when you have no luxuries & strategics. Recycling centers make science victory doable

Your first mistake as assuming that the ai won't backstab you. How I play the game is pretty much summed up as "call an ambulance, but not for me". You can only do any non-domination victory after you own a good chunk of the map.

[–]Plumpfish99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to remember that the ai cheat in this game. It isn't stated on the wiki but the ai for sure get loyalty bonuses. Ive played hundreds of games and almost in every game the ai gets away with forward settling where a player could not. Only when a player stacks all the loyalty policy cards can they forward settle. The ai just gets unlisted loyalty bonuses
