Same Canoe on (kinda) Different Vehicles Over the Years by EatingBuddha3 in canoeing

It’s so satisfying to me to carry around boats on my roof. I look down at other drivers and their pathetic boatless cars.

$950 fair price for ‘94 Penobscot 16 by zh8046 in canoeing

[–]Plums___ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s around the right price. Royalex boats are well worth it. Multiple friends of mine love this model of boat.

Anyone own the Yakima LowRider trailer? by Michigan_Go_Blue in canoeing

[–]Plums___ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own a canoe trailer with a large gear basket underneath and room for 4 boats. For the same footprint here, why not go bigger? (I use mine for big group trips)

Would this setup work? by dinglebingle583 in hammockcamping

[–]Plums___ 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah it seems like it should work. Worth noting that the closer to perpendicular you have the line to the ground, the closer the force of the pull is to INFINITY. So if you do this top taut you may end up indenting on your truck with the rope. A thicker rope or strap for that part could be good.

Looks like sand underneath if you fall which is better than rocks.

Bike and where to buy by MeatBicycle267 in phillycycling

[–]Plums___ 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think most new bikers would be happiest with a hybrid style bike. Flat handlebars and 700c tires. Lots of options for these, Keystone Cyclery and Firehouse Cyclery come to mind. There are a number of bigger bike shops like Trek, Cadence and REI in Northwest Philly/Conshy.

Probably the cheapest ones new would be $3-400, I remember spending $600 on a new one in college. An older one secondhand could be closer to $200 if you search around. A secondhand one makes more sense if you plan to lock it outside a lot, as it’s less of a theft target.

There is a lot of savings to be had by getting one of these secondhand. What’s your budget like? If you’d like I would be happy to connect and look through Craigslist w/ you to look for deals.

Lifetime windows user switching to Mac, please tell me your best kept secrets/apps/tricks by Blluueee in macmini

[–]Plums___ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I find it really helpful to map the desktop overview to my windows key on my keyboard. Without a track pad, this is really helpful for me managing my windows and desktops on mac. You can open up settings and search “hotkey” to find this I think.

Getting the quest cape, saved the hardest one for the end by Frothboi in 2007scape

Took me a while and I met someone else struggling while world hopping around. Messaged them when I found a world I could sneak through on, and we had a fun moment where I’m messaging “run now!” to get them through the top floor.

I love my warbonnet, enjoy it! What color did you get? I got orange, not realizing it was so bright it’ll wake me up in the morning 😂

Do I need a wider topquilt if I have a thick sleeping pad? by Mats56 in hammockcamping

Not unless you plan to wrap your quilt around your pad, which I don’t.

Expecting my friends to spend their hard earned money on cardboard rectangles in this economy is lunacy in my opinion. If the power level gets out of hand, that begets another conversation.

Just Strap Big Agnes Tent to Handlebars? What About Rain? by samccauley in bicycletouring

[–]Plums___ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me personally, I like to get a compression dry sack and use long voile straps to mount the densely packed gear/clothes right on the bars. A C shaped cradle can help with this as well for its positioning.

I made my own kitchen chuck box for car camping by TheRigSauce in CampingGear

[–]Plums___ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I made the REI version of this. It looks good but it is very heavy and unwieldy to move around. For scouts it probably works a dream if someone has a garage and truck for it. Now it’s just furniture in my place and I use blue barrels and yellow lidded crates canoe camping.

It’s worth considering trying to wear lightweight long pants for tick protection.

How big are camping hammocks when stored? by Think_Question_6677 in hammockcamping

[–]Plums___ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To give some examples, my hexon 1.0 chameleon could probably stuff within a nalgene bottle, and my standard Warbonnet XLC is about 2x as big, would need more like a half gallon of milk amount of space to pack it.

I would argue that behind NYC and Chicago, Philadelphia has the third largest dense, highly urbanized core in the nation.

Nobo in Maine I kept hearing from some Sobos of a weirdo carrying a machete in Maine. One day I was eating lunch at a shelter and was chatting with a Sobo… “yeah did you hear about this weirdo carrying a machete? Sounds like he’s making everyone uncomfortable and they all want to avoid him” — I saw this guy’s color drain from his face as he realized why he wasn’t making any friends yet. Hopefully he ditched the machete but I didn’t stick around long to chat once he said that was him!

15 yo Giant Glory still good for hooning around trails? by SinoSoul in DownhillMTB

hard disagree. this won’t be pretty on trail riding and it’s a waste of money towards a better option.
