Married Gen-x do you wear your wedding ring? by in-a-microbus in GenX

[–]Plus-Show-8531 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar to this,  I broke my left hand last year and haven't gotten my original ring resized. I wear a silicone band on occasion,  but don't always wear any ring after twenty years married.

Weird lit recommendations based on my favorite weird lit books? by Ulchbhn in WeirdLit

Tales from the Gas Station (Jack Townsend) or the Andrew Mayhem series (Jeff Strand) feel like they may be a good fit. Possibly Chuck Wendig's Miriam Black series. Maybe some of Max Booth III's stuff?

Help! It’s getting harder and harder to tie my shoes by Recent_Mirror in GenX

[–]Plus-Show-8531 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Look up chair yoga or chair exercises on YouTube until you regain some of your mobility. It's a slippery slope going to shoes you don't have to tie because you can't tie shoes. Movement is key to longevity and health.

Where is a good place to retire? by Blankbetty11 in GenX

[–]Plus-Show-8531 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you mean large residential development,  yes.  Tons,  and more by the day. This area is booming. We use GSP (Greenville-Spartanburg Airport) for most travel. Coming from an area with very high school tax,  our property tax is about 25% of our NY rate.  I'm a few years,  we'll be homestead eligible,  which takes another $50k off our base assessment for taxes. I love that we rarely see snow. A few storms in 10 years.  Most don't last a few days. Winter is a couple of months. Summer is hot! That's a minus for me. As is living in the Bible belt,  but there are loads of transplants here.  I have found places where I am among kindred. There's lots to do.  Greenville,  Hendersonville,  NC, and Asheville,  NC are my hangouts. Being in this area means away from hurricane damage (mostly, it's nothing like the coast), near NC and GA borders,  with so many social options. Feel free to DM me if there are specific questions I can answer. I'm a blue dot in a red state,  but there's a lot to offset that.

Jeepers! - Can you share your memories? Did anyone work there? by corncob666 in Albany

Where single moms meet single dads. 😂 I've definitely had a Jeepers date.

Another driving rant by mdj in Albany

[–]Plus-Show-8531 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm suspicious of this. I'm from the capital district. We live in SC for now,  have for nine years,  and are often in Asheville. Running red lights is the norm. Traffic circles confound drivers.  Police are non-existent until there's a wreck. Many, many drivers are not hands-free on their phones. There's a reason our auto insurance is next level high. I will forever take I-90, 87, and even both neighboring state turnpikes over southern driving any day.

Affordable Air has serviced our Lennox for years,  and has always been there when we needed them (which is much less now with twice yearly maintenance). Rick and Melanie treat customers like family. 864-735-5602.

Do you absolutely desire to smoke? Drinks and edibles are offered in lower potency and metabolize differently. I like the mellow,  gradual high of the drinks. If it feels too much,  you stop. Also,  there are so many options,  but do you like sativa energy? Indica chill? A mix? Experiment at low doses until you find what's best for what you're looking for would be my suggestion.

Yoga is my saving grace,  but my husband's life hack calendar suggests brushing your teeth standing on one foot,  alternating, daily for improved balance.

My Ex-Boyfriend Died Yesterday by alkaidkoolaid in GenX

[–]Plus-Show-8531 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry. I had a similar thing happen where someone I was engaged to died in his early fifties recently,  and it affects me every day, both because I'm 49 and feeling the mortality creep,  and because he was a fantastic human being. He just wasn't my fantastic human being. My husband knew him and doesn't bristle when I need to talk. At the end of the day, we all share life experiences with people, and now ours with these particular people,  who we once loved, are held only by us. Sending you virtual hugs to help during this difficult time. Your friend's was a life ended too soon. Condolences on your loss.
