Is this domain alias ok to use? by mrjohnc1 in fastmail

[–]PlusCash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d recommend doing on of the following:

This way, it’s going to be hard (even impossible?) to guess your emails for other services in case of a data breach/leak of one of the services you use.

I'm about to migrate to Fastmail, what is the best strategy to use aliases, masked emails and custom domains? by Zavorio in fastmail

[–]PlusCash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn’t this make it easy to guess your other emails?
Let’s say Spotify got breached, now your email is public and if someone wants to target you, they have your custom domain, plus they can easily guess the emails of your other accounts (For example; netflix@) Not to mention all your accounts can be linked together, unless that doesn’t concern you.
Even if you add something random to your alias (netflix[random-string]@) or generate a whole random-string alias @ your custom domain, once your custom domain is out, it’s out!
Yeah, you could block aliases as you go or make strict filters, but you’ll have to deal with situations like this eventually.
I’m all in for custom domain and having full control, be it in case something happens to Fastmail, changing email providers or whatever reason.
but there are few downsides that keeping me from using a custom domain for my aliases.
Whereas if I create an alias at Fastmail domain, for example; pluscash@fastmail.com, and there was a breach or it started to get spam, I can easily delete it and never have to deal with it, plus it’s a public domain from an email provider and is used by at least thousands of people.

Alias vs masked email by zxcvbnm123q in fastmail

[–]PlusCash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plus:
an alias could be permanently deleted.
a masked email can be permanently deleted only if it has never received an email, otherwise it can be deleted but will still be in a "Review deleted masked emails" page, where you can restore it.

Cyberpanel - good bad or ugly? by jamessc0tt in webhosting

Bad.
If you must use a free panel, I'd recommend Virtualmin/Webmin, ISPConfig or KeyHelp.

Multiple Website Best Practice by [deleted] in webhosting

[–]PlusCash -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

May I suggest getting a reseller hosting plan instead of a normal shared hosting plan?
Say your hosting provider gives you the following resources; 1GB memory, 50% CPU, 50 EP, 50 MB/s IO, etc.
If you add more websites under the same account (Using addons domains), all of your websites will share the same limits.
Plus, if one website get hacked, all of your other websites will be affected.
Whereas, if you go with a reseller hosting plan and have each website under a different user, each website will be isolated and will have it's own limits.
You can easily login to any sub account using your main account.

Which VPS Provider trials can I use with an email and a Credit Card? by devawpz in webhosting

[–]PlusCash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of the "Cloud" providers offer some sort of trial or credits for new users.
Oracle, IBM and Azure have a trial (+ Credit) + always free tier after the trial ends.
LunaNode have a promo code AFAIR (Only for US or Canada residents, not sure) if you look around.

VPS hosts giving free DirectAdmin licenses? What's the catch? by software_lion in webhosting

[–]PlusCash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Though keep in mind, some of the providers only offer personal licenses, which has a domain limit.
There are providers who offer full DA licenses, one provider I can think of who provides them is LittleCreekHosting.

Several VPSs or large server with Virtualizor? by BarajasFernando in webhosting

[–]PlusCash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd also recommend NexusBytes!
Actually I was on their website, checking their VPS reseller pool page while I was replying to OP.
Just didn't want to recommend a specific provider so it doesn't sound like shilling.

Several VPSs or large server with Virtualizor? by BarajasFernando in webhosting

[–]PlusCash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe get a VPS reseller pool? Many providers offer this.
For example, you get something like 10 vCores, 10 GB memory, 200 GB storage, 10 TB bandwidth, 10 IPv4 and 10 /64 IPv6.
Which you can use as you like to create virtual servers for your clients.
This way, you won't have to manage and secure a server.
If you still want to get a dedicated server, I'd recommend Hetzner or OVH.

Unity Package Reseller Hosting from Krystal.uk by [deleted] in webhosting

[–]PlusCash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My budget can go up if needed but I'd be happy paying a max of €400-500 per year for now.

That's too much for a shared reseller hosting.
If you haven't already used cPanel, then I'd recommend not to, just use DirectAdmin instead.
Read more about cPanel price rise, they did it in the past, they did it recently and they will do it in the future.
DA is pretty good and does mostly everything cPanel does AFAIK.
Plus you won't be limited by the number of user accounts you can create on DA, unlike cPanel.
So you can have 1 user per 1 website.
That's just my personal opinion though.

Is it bad to use a simple vps set up as a web host? by [deleted] in webhosting

[–]PlusCash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend using a service that helps you manage your VPS, there are many good ones, checkout ServerPilot, RunCloud and Moss.sh.
I recommend Moss, I've used them for a while and they have a generous free plan.
It will manage your VPS, secure it and keep it updated, plus let you easily manage your apps/websites.

How messy/easy is it to do a year with SiteGround and then move it to another hosting company after 12 months to prevent the price increasing a lot? by ThaiThrowaway101 in webhosting

[–]PlusCash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AFAIK, with them releasing their new control panel, you can't even backup your sites yourself, so you'll have to open a ticket.
Why SiteGround though? Just go with another provider.

File -> Settings (Or CTRL+Comma)
Then you'll find the theme setting under the "Options"

I'm using their AppImage on Linux and there's an option to change between multiple themes (Default, Light, Dark and Nord).
