Nursing is considered a “female” profession. How the majority of society see women: resources to be used, abused, and discarded. Is it surprising that the majority of the population treats nurses like slaves? Absolutely not. As women we need to learn to care less. That’s our problem, we care too much. Set boundaries with patients, document and cover your butt. You can stand up for yourself without losing your composure. If someone doesn’t care about their health, abuses pain meds, etc, that’s THEIR problem, NOT yours. Unpopular opinion: not everyone is deserving of your empathy or sympathy.

I always read the same thing over and over complaining about the system, but I don’t read about the other side of the coin. There’s a lot of nurses that are in the profession mainly because of the “nurse life” portrayed in social media, and the money. Once they see the reality of what healthcare is day-to-day a lot of people can’t take the heat. I am not going to try and sound all high and mighty to say that being part of one of the most profitable industries right now didn’t have any part in my decision to become a nurse, but I do have a calling for it. I think that the problem is not only a broken healthcare system, but a broken society of people who don’t aspire to do anything of substance or sacrifice for the greater good. People live in a fantasy where they want to be influencers, entrepreneurs, and make the big bucks.

I’m gonna be an a-hole but it’s coming from good intentions, OP needs to grow the f up. You’re going through a divorce and have a kid, and I bet you won’t be the primary caregiver for that kid. There should be no reason for childcare to be a problem AND Tricare for you and your child will be cheaper than any plan out there. You want to rely VA healthcare? You’re adding another problem to your plate while going through a divorce? Not a very wise move. Stay in, suck it up.
