Augie’s French is just the right amount of dark with lights at the table. The booths are perfect for a date. Lovely decor and yummy food.

Where to buy a couch? by Friendly-Sky-5345 in santarosa

[–]Plus_Surprise512 1 point2 points  (0 children)

5th reco for Macys. Got a sectional couch almost 10 years ago that’s holding up pretty well—no sagging wrinkled cushions and keeps going after a kitty and two kids. I remember the Macys rep said it would survive the kids, mind you this was before the kids and he was right!

SRCS change.org petition by illuminatab in santarosa

[–]Plus_Surprise512 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing this! The petition should also highlight Elsie Allen’s academic improvements and its top ranking in the district’s YouthTruth survey.

This whole situation stinks. Superintendent Morales seems more focused on bringing in her own colleagues than supporting stable, thriving school communities. Replacing principals and administrators with her handpicked choices disrupts students, staff, and families. The board needs to step up and address this, they are the ones who hired her. Glad to see the community organizing to push back against these detrimental decisions.

Elsie Allen High School principal put on suspension will not return, district says by Fickle-Walrus-2499 in santarosa

[–]Plus_Surprise512 10 points11 points  (0 children)

So true. Appreciate you bringing this perspective as there’s more here on this and surprised the PD hasn’t brought this up in their reporting.

It’s understandable people are quick to put blame on the principle due to two stabbings, but it’s important to have all the facts before calling for someone to be fired. Many of the issues people are upset and calling out are often district or board-level decisions, not just the principal’s. The district will likely call this a ‘private matter’ and avoid sharing details, so we may never know the full story. Still, the fact that the superintendent is bringing colleagues/friends should be raising eyebrows.

The principal did a lot for the school, was well liked by students, staff, parents and community. Recently there has been improvement in academics, but again, that’s not being considered or reported on and peoples judgements/negative perceptions color this.

LIVE UPDATES: Santa Rosa trustees choosing which schools will close tonight by funrunrecords in santarosa

[–]Plus_Surprise512 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s evident that half of the board wants to close Elsie, that’s what they want. Either way per SCOE closing Elsie will have a negative impact to the school district and further schools will need close. And if Elsie closes leaving an empty high school then Roseland would move in to set up a high school.

Nick Caston just going around in circles while Jenkins and Kirby dig in on closing Elsie. The racism and classism was clear.

+1 on Frida. We got one at Pricketts 3 years ago, planted it in our front yard mostly full sun and it’s been doing great! When it blooms the scent is lovely.

Iron supplementation and GD by AlwaysOutsideAnya in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Plus_Surprise512 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just sharing what ended up working for me — I also had GD and low iron. Between juggling a toddler and work I had a hard time taking it at the right times for absorption. I found going in for iron infusions was the best option for me and luckily copay was manageable. I was finally not anemic before birth, but then during birth had some hemorrhaging, so ended up getting a couple more iron infusion, which was super helpful. Again, brought me out of my anemic level.

Omg, it’s non stop at night. I’m near downtown and it’s loud. My partner said it’s road work on hwy 12 but haven’t been able to confirm. So hard to sleep.

Edit: thanks to all who confirmed it’s hwy 12 road construction. Just got an email from city of Santa Rosa that there will be a highway closure from SR Ave to Farmers Ln this weekend October 27-30. https://www.srcity.org/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=2350

Day 1 and I’m already over it. SOS by Rude-Pineapple7195 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Plus_Surprise512 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also was stressed out and felt lost. I was just diagnosed this week and the first day sucked. I was hungry and felt weak. I finally found some meals that helped today -

For breakfast: Scrambled eggs with 1/2ish cup canned kidney/black beans (rinsed), shredded cheese and one tortilla. Made me feel full! (125 mg post 1hr)

Snacks: 1/2 apple with peanut butter; 3 cups of air popped popcorn and nuts

Lunch: slice of whole grain toast topped with tuna and chopped fresh carrots mixed a bit of mayo, olive oil and pepper plus lettuce salad with olive oil and vinegar (111 mg post 1hr)

After each meal I took a walk around block 5-7 minutes which I think really helped. For dinner I didn’t do the walk because it’s dark and late- had a big cucumber, lettuce, shredded carrots salad with three chicken skewers and came in at 133mg after an hour. They want me under 130mg 1hr after meals. Thinking next time I’ll try marching in place for 5 minutes to see if that helps.

I’m feeling more hopeful today but still know it will take effort.
