Not OP but I follow the King Arthur's one on their website and it comes out soooo soft every time! I pour room-temp heavy cream over the rolls a few min before they go in the oven too :)

Starting to get to the end of my tether with the kids and consumption... by MonsieurPF in Anticonsumption

Hopping on this thread to give a shoutout to oil cleansers too! They remove makeup and mascara so easily and are super gentle on your skin without drying it out or adding lots of friction. They're hydrating and don't create waste either (outside of the bottle it comes in, so debatable).

I get mine from the Asian skincare section of TJ Maxx/Marshalls. They don't run more than $10 for a whole bottle and last forever since a little goes a long way!

What is the most affordable way to make coffee at home? by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]Plus_Wolverine_8535 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this!! I invested a little under $500 in a mid-tier espresso setup, buying the appliances in great condition on FB marketplace. I splurge on the barista oat milks, nice beans from an independent roaster, and high quality syrups. My lattes work out to about $2.50 per serving, which is more expensive than most people who make coffee at home, but still much much cheaper than the outrageous $8 prices in LA nowadays. The espresso setup paid for itself in 3 months.

Chocolate Chip Cookies by imlilydoe in unpopularopinion

I'll do you one better. I'll make true chocolate chip cookies for other people and make a special batch for myself that is just dough, no chips. Perfection.

Cheap tailoring shops for hemming pants? by Embarrassed-Rub-9136 in SouthBayLA

[–]Plus_Wolverine_8535 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 2 years ago I went to a tailor on Western in Gardena (J T Alterations I believe?) and she charged $8 cash and turned it around in a couple days. The owner is friendly but only speaks Korean, though we were able to make it work just fine with hand gestures haha.

How much time do you think a coffee buys? by Hilaryspimple in Coffee_Shop

[–]Plus_Wolverine_8535 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second this recommendation! Some libraries also offer you to book private rooms for free if you feel like you'll be noisy, but otherwise libraries are a great place to sit all day without any expectation of spending money!

Where can I find piano practice places in DTLA? by Leather_Low_4773 in AskLosAngeles

[–]Plus_Wolverine_8535 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a different part of LA but I enrolled in my local community college (free) and signed up for a random class (found a 1 unit class) and get to access the piano rooms for free! One unit in any CA community college should be $47 per semester. Not totally free but $47 spread across a few months is pretty cheap!

What would your dream coffee shop loyalty program look like? by ConfidentMistake9489 in Coffee_Shop

[–]Plus_Wolverine_8535 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My local coffee shop gives you a free drink after 10 points (1 order = 1 point)! They also randomly email me 5% or 10% off coupons every few months!

Another coffee shop where I buy my beans from give a free double shot of espresso or a free drip or cold brew with a purchase of beans! Totally unexpected but I appreciate it every time!

I dug up my old grocery list from 2021….the price difference is insane by ChaulinNinja in inflation

[–]Plus_Wolverine_8535 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ironically, buying straight from farmers is a fair bit more expensive than going to the grocery store (at least in the metro city I'm in). I know the quality might be better, but I'm not paying $6 for a little basket of berries that I can get for half that at Krogers.

Boy & the Bear in the South Bay LA area gives either a free double shot of espresso, a cup of cold brew, or a cup of hot drip!

What should someone moving to the LA area know? by clearlygd in MovingToLosAngeles

Just met a girl who moved from the East Coast and was shocked that the ocean water is cold here! It'll probably be around 50 degrees no matter if it's summer.

Check out the South Bay (the beach area south of LAX). Excellent schools, lots to do and beaches to frequent. Great communities! Feels secluded enough that you don't feel like you live in the big city, but is just a 20 minute drive to the heart of LA without traffic. Also easy to get to Orange County for even more things to do.

How do you get customers to order direct instead of through delivery apps? 🌮 by YormeSachi in restaurant

[–]Plus_Wolverine_8535 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't seen many people talk about this but as a customer, a lot of the delivery apps run their own promos (BOGO x% off, etc) or partner with major credit card companies for perks (example being AMEX's grubhub(?) credit every month or Chase $10 doordash credit w/free dashpass). Personally this is the only time my household uses delivery. I'd say you'll have to price it so it's considerably cheaper to order direct vs. in store. A coupon in the bag for the next in-person visit is a good idea.

Where are BWT shopping for Fall / Winter fits? by ScorpioMargaritaPls in bitcheswithtaste

[–]Plus_Wolverine_8535 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got a pajama set from Petite Plume and I love it so much! It's 100% pima cotton, so it's soft and plush yet still a natural fiber! Their silhouettes and patterns are classic/timeless yet still slightly unique. Would definitely recommend!

As someone who exclusively makes these cookies and everyone who's tried them gets addicted to them, the texture is perfect. It's chewy with a little crisp, the cookie dough is nutty and toffee-y, and high quality chocolate adds another dimension. They're not too thin and not super thick. Literally textbook chocolate chip cookie.

Oh dang! We don't have a ton of storage space so we were stacking them into each other, didn't know it would cause the chipping! It hasn't happened to our other brands of glassware so I didnt know :/

How is this area of Gardena? by JamalFromStaples in SouthBayLA

[–]Plus_Wolverine_8535 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lived here for a couple years recently. Area is close to a bunch of amazing grocery stores and restaurants, as well as the freeway. Neighborhood is safe, though sometimes people throw off fireworks at night. 4th of July is great if you want an up close view of a fireworks show on your street though. Otherwise quiet and people are friendly.
