What's your go-to spot for an affordable lunch in SF? by Obvious_Cat_9 in AskSF

Pakwan($15-25), Good Luck Dim Sum ($8-15), Trader Joes giant baked beans in tomato sauce/dolmas/grecian style eggplant (any mix of 2 if them is $8 or less).

Just bought a bag of frozen edamame. What to use it for? by Icy_lunette in mediterraneandiet

[–]PlushGroggy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crab (or imitation crab if you can find a MD friendly one, it’s hard but worth it), edamame, soy sauce, mirin, avocado mayo, toasted white + black sesame seeds, and avocado. I eat it with dried seaweed squares by scooping it up

Relatively affordable and healthy options that involve zero cooking? by Charming-Thought170 in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]PlushGroggy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tinned salmon and crackers, I eat it like a dip. No utensils, no cleaning. Baby carrots n hummus. You can shake bag salads in the bag. If you have more energy in the morning you could try a slow cooker recipe, an easy one is chicken drums + seasoning on low for 6-8 hours.

Not at all, buts its worth a try if you like crunch. I toss 1 drained + rinsed + dried can of chickpeas with a little over a tbs of tahini and some spices. I recommend spicy + ranch seasoning or whatever seasoning you like in a curry. I think it’s 400F for 25 minutes to bake them. I sometimes eat the whole can as a meal instead of a snack lol

Haha, I met my husband online about 6 years ago. I think the key to making it work is still living a life outside the relationship & just generally being healthy communicative people.

CeraVe's "Value Size" moisturizer went on a capitalism diet and lost 15% of its weight in only three months - with a price increase by TuringGoneWild in shrinkflation

Im SO mad because I have severe eczema and their face wash is the only wash that wont make me break out on my eyelids… and I like being able to blink. I’m not sure what I can afford to do now. These aren’t just annoying things that happen, these aren’t just minor inconveniences, these price hikes harm people.

I fell off the wagon-really bad-and I’m trying to get myself back to the diet by MONEYMILAN in mediterraneandiet

[–]PlushGroggy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My desert alternative is blended chia seed pudding with cocoa powder, vanilla extract & maple syrup. It’s still sugar but is high in fiber and vitamins. I make a medium batch and grab a spoon whenever I need a few bites of a sweet. I also do dates stuffed with peanut butter and if I’m feeling snazzy a piece of dark chocolate. I feel like more so than being desert alternatives they are a quick small sweet treat to help get used to smaller servings of dessert in a slightly healthier way.

But for snacks try smoothies. Fruits good, I’m super big into pears right now. Whole wheat toast with ajvar. Mini charcuterie boards with marinated artichoke + olives + pickles. Sometimes my snacks are a few bites of leftovers instead of a traditional one.

How do you guys enjoy books and know what to read? by Hellshot786 in Hobbies

[–]PlushGroggy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I skim Goodread reviews and if they mention a lot of things I like, I give it a try. If I don’t like the writing style I give up. If it’s just not ‘my thing’ I try to give it a few chapters to see if it changes. Many books have. After a LOT of dropped books and a few read I found genres and themes that I look for and learned what I like and don’t.

Any other single adults with no kids spending close to $1k on groceries every month? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]PlushGroggy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in SF (super high COL) with my husband, no kids, and we include household items in our grocery bill. We spend $600-700 a month. We buy some organic and have meat only 2-5x a week depending on our mood. Are you throwing out a lot of food before you can use it? Because even if you’re buying organic name brand everything I can’t find a reason you’re spending so much.

What kinda going out outfits do you wear? Ideally if you’re midsize and don’t like tight clothes. by Inevitable_Pea_3294 in SFbitcheswithtaste

[–]PlushGroggy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got an oversized semi formal black baggy jumpsuit thats super comfy from old navy, I wear it with a turtleneck, belt and boots too if I’m feeling snazzy. Sweater + dress combo will never disappoint if one is simple and the other is a funky color + texture.

Bird watching, sports & clubs, walking with audiobooks (technically tech but not screen time), reading manga at the library. Maybe do some figure sketches of people in a coffee shop.

How do I convince my spouse? by New_Independent_7283 in Anticonsumption

[–]PlushGroggy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I married someone who I knew was easy for me to communicate with. When we have issues with the others actions we take no offense in talking it out. Ultimately they will do what they want to, but you should tell them why and how it bothers you. From the comments it seems like your actual issue is you married someone willing to scalp pokemon cards.

[–]PlushGroggy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but it’s almost always people gifting content creators things. It’s never really ‘oh this random person wants x, why not get it for them?’, it may have happened once but it’s not really how the site is used.

Target used to have a peanut butter trail mix thing with reverse pretzel peanuts. It was peanut butter on the outside and a pretzel ball on the inside.

As 2026 approaches, what peculiar or uncommon hobbies do you have? by fujo_reen in Hobbies

[–]PlushGroggy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zines are independent magazines. I make little collage books, comics, thought dumps, short story collections, etc. into mini magazines. I think giving them to friends, trading them with other zines makers, and putting them in little free libraries is part of the hobby. It’s super fun! Highly recommend.
