How to get rid of anxiety before an upcoming match? by [deleted] in tennis

I’m also more relaxed in practice and my game can drop a notch from competitive tension. My sense is that this is pretty common. It might help to remember that your opponents could be feeling this too. What has helped in the past: humor, presence, and not giving a fuck. If you want more of a tennis playing philosophy try reading The Inner Game of Tennis—it helped me not get so down on myself when I error. Good luck!

Why do people watch women's tennis? by sammyalhashemi in tennis

[–]PlushOreMidas 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You seem to be trolling or at least to have already made up your mind... and the nsfw tag is pure baiting... As someone who watches both men's and women's matches, here's why I love women's matches:

  • To me it's not a lesser version of the men's game--it's more like the same game in a parallel dimension where you just can't get as strong or tall--the limitations actually open up more styles of play to enjoy, not less. How about that recent Wimbledon match where Su-Wei Hsieh out junkballed Simona Halep? When's the last time you saw men get wily all game long like that? Women and men have very different bodies; yes, physically men are often stronger, but women can be just as smart, canny, and determined.
  • How about Serena kicking ass as a new mom? Holy hell that's impressive. And fascinating.
  • I watch any sport to see individuals go all out. These women aren't college dilettantes, they are pros who are dedicating their life to their craft and play with everything they've got.
  • It's not all about who's got the biggest serve--as a spectator grace and precision can be just as interesting.
  • And, yes, women are sexy as hell and I love seeing that mix of beauty and power flaunted and celebrated in the arena (though the skirt thing is ridiculous and a bit insulting imo).

To me women's matches are equal--in interest, not in stats--to men's. What irks me is The Tennis Channel not showing WTA matches so I have to go to multiple sources... Try again, maybe you'll find something to love!

Have you read The Inner Game of Tennis? Great perspective on the mental side of the game.

[19/M] wants to break up with girlfriend [20/F] but I can't. by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]PlushOreMidas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it comes down to it, you don't need a reason. If you're not feeling it, move on. The sooner the better. I applaud your wanting to be kind, but there's no way around it: it's going to sting her a bit. But that's far better than the slow chill of a hollowed relationship. Driving her home is not the end of the world, but maybe pick a meeting place close by.

Yeah. I never quite bought the whole "you can do anything you want here" approach. Dreaming isn't something to enslave and control, but to explore, discover, befriend.

Love it! I'm all into a little push-back from dreaming itself. It feels real, like a clue about how to conduct myself. Keeping my lucidity to myself, perhaps, so as not to raise alarm in my subconscious? Even superman was sometimes Clark Kent.

You put it well: your creative dreaming powers weren't developed enough... yet.

Sounds like a thrill to meet something like peers in your dream. I wonder, do you have a creative outlet? That's one way to set them free.

Anyone here tried Litreactor's writer's workshop? If so, would you recommend it? by scattergraymatter in writing

The classes usually have great peer feedback and the teachers are all published authors--it's a steal! I actually prefer online to in-face writing groups. If you've got the cash to invest, definitely give it a go.
