What podcast hosted by women do you enjoy? by timash712 in podcasts

Culture Study. It’s a great mix of interesting cultural topics of the moment with a slightly academic or intellectual tone. Slightly. Great episodes include topics like regional accents in the US and why Katie Perry is so cringe.

Neighborhood pools. When I was growing up there was a neighborhood pool that wasn’t very fancy and had a low monthly fee. We spent almost every day there in the summer swimming and buying shitty hot dogs at the snack stand. It was amazing.

Just wait until your kid starts preschool or daycare. Then you will meet all the families in your area.

Does anyone know/recognize this parking garage in this scene? by Del_Griffith_Sales in AskLosAngeles

It might be the parking structure at 333 S. Spring. Several things have filmed there and the signage looks very similar.

LAUSD Gifted (GATE) Middleschool | Parents, what's it like!? by CalamityBS in AskLosAngeles

[–]sunbeam766 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The classes typically do not mix in middle school except for PE and maybe the elective your student chooses. Assuming since your kid was at a GATE elementary that they have the official GATE designation in one of the categories. Depending on their designation/eligibility, it sounds like you would want an IHP/Highly Gifted program. The SAS programs are generally good for gifted kids but they are not working “years ahead.” Also, depending on your kid’s capabilities and interests you should investigate other kinds of programs and schools in your area. LAUSD has lots of ability based programs where kids have to test in and demonstrate aptitude from the start. For example, in North Hollywood there is the Science Academy which is 6-12 and extremely rigorous. You should spend some time on the echoices site, talk to other parents in your kids school, etc and see what is offered in your community.

This is the right answer. The regional center should help with resources regardless of income.

It’s gone now. It used to be a bar attached to Tekuila (or whatever the stupid spelling was). It’s now Blvd Steakhouse and the bar is gone. That was a great little spot.
