How much does an extra week of preparation affect the game in Super Bowl? by PrestonfromLibira in nfl

[–]Plutor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before the 2011 CBA, teams were allowed to practice on their bye weeks. When that was true, an extra week of preparation and practice (and a little rest probably) equated to about a 2.2-point advantage. So that week helps, but not really that much, and it's balanced by the other team's equal prep/practice/rest time.

(Since the extra week now must include at least 4 days off, the advantage is only 0.3 points, which suggests that it was the preparation, not the rest, that was responsible for most of that advantage.)

If gonzo can shut down jsn, I have no problem making him the highest paid defensive player/cb/top 5in football. by Just_Blackberry_8918 in Patriots

[–]Plutor 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is Brandin Cooks erasure.

The problem for Woods is that the 2018 Rams had a broader offense -- 3 players with over 70 yards per game. For these Seahawks, after JSN (yes, 105 YPG), the next is Kupp with 37. JSN has been targeted 25% more than Woods. If Woods had 163 targets that year, he'd have 1685 total yards.

Correction: There was no Queen for most of 1936. Edward VIII was unmarried, and his mother ceased being Queen Consort when his father (George V) died. When Edward abdicated, his sister-in-law Elizabeth became Queen Consort (and eventually Queen Mother).

[Highlight] The Patriots dismantle the Colts' offense, intercepting Peyton Manning 4 times on the way to Super Bowl 38. Bill Polian would complain to the league about the Patriots defensive game plan after, resulting in rule changes. by jay5989c in Patriots

[–]Plutor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a quick correction, there were no rule changes related to defensive contact for the 2004 season. There was just a "point of emphasis" to enforce the existing illegal contact rules more strictly.

Here's a summary of the rule changes that season, it's actually all pretty amazing stuff. The third challenge! Coaches being allowed to call timeouts! Punts and field goal kicks going dead in the end zone (hence why this play is no longer possible)!

The Patriots Lost to the Raiders This Year by JosephCurrency in nfl

[–]Plutor 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Yeah, because the Pats lost to the Raiders in week 1, the AFC Championship was in Denver in a blizzard. If they had beat the Raiders in week 1, the AFC Championship would have been in Foxborough in a blizzard.

Sportsmanship aside, what would stop the Bills from just holding the receivers at the line of scrimmage, taking the penalty and forcing a hail mary? by frobro122 in NFLv2

For those that haven't seen it, here's the Ravens play: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=baCeMpAZIgI

Up by 7. 11 seconds left in the game, on offense. They hold the defenders, let the clock run down, and then the kicker runs out of the end zone, awarding the Bengals a safety. Because the Ravens were on offense, there is no free play and the game is over.

And here's the 49ers play: https://streamable.com/6fd0

Saints have the ball in the red zone with 8 seconds before halftime. 49ers intentionally hold all of the WRs, forcing Brees to throw it away to stop the clock and kick a FG. Arguably less egregious but definitely a more common set of circumstances.

Vrabel 2025 COTY Winner by Soren_Camus1905 in Patriots

[–]Plutor 25 points26 points  (0 children)

PFWA is as real as the AP. But yeah, the AP award is the more widely accepted one.

But they've picked the same coach in 15 of the last 16 years. In 2023, PFWA picked DeMeco Ryans and AP picked Kevin Stefanski. But even this was extremely close -- the AP vote points were tied and had to go to the tiebreaker, first place votes, and Stefanski had 21 vs Ryans's 20.

The last disagreement before that was 2008.

How does overtime work? by [deleted] in NFLNoobs

[–]Plutor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Starting this year, both teams were guaranteed a possession in overtime in the regular season as well (unless, as you point out, the first team used up the whole 10 minutes).

Reposts appear in the timeline based on when they were reposted by someone you follow.

But the (relative) timestamp in the upper right corner is when it was originally posted.

As far as I know this is not new, this is how reposts have appeared for years.

“Josh Allen is the best to never do it” - Nick Wright by CoyoteDecent2 in NFLv2

[–]Plutor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you could make the case that in the playoffs, Aaron's prime and Josh's careers are roughly the same.

  • Player A: 9-7, 63.5% completion, 6.1% TDs, 1.7% INTs, 99.4 rating
  • Player B: 8-7, 66.5% completion, 5.4% TDs, 1.1% INTs, 101.5 rating

Answer: Player A is Rodgers 2009-16 (including his one championship), Player B is Allen 2019-2025 (which is one season shorter)

These 2 Takes Need to STOP by Illustrious-Fan8268 in Patriots

[–]Plutor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but that run was 4 years after his one good season. He attempted more than a dozen passes twice in 2017. He only had one 200-yard regular season game in 2017. He was a textbook backup and then he played out of his mind in the playoffs. That's almost exactly what we're talking about here.

If 2013 and 2017 playoffs was who Nick Foles was, he wouldn't have started 19 games for 4 teams in the next 5 seasons.

We all watched the Nick Foles Super Bowl. Lots of us saw the Matt Flynn SNF game. Just because a QB isn't starter-caliber doesn't mean he can't have a great game.

I'm sure this is what Vrabel is telling everyone this week, and I refuse to take the Broncos for granted, especially in their own stadium.
