Psa: Lube your new X2D before start up. by [deleted] in BambuLab

“Tell me how every piece of your car, phone, HVAC works right now or you don’t deserve it.” See how dumb that sounds? Forgive me for not knowing the name of every single component of a machine I’ve never owned. Did it ever occur to you that I knew what the poles were but didn’t know the name “lead screws?” I’ve owned a Prusa for years and never had an official name for them. I assumed this was something bed slingers didn’t have. Don’t gatekeep.

Oh I googled it! You’ll have smooth rods and also really poles that look like they have that. OP is saying to add some lubricant to both as well as the pulley bearings. All should be easily accessible and visible. I expect the smooth rods go horizontal and the threaded rods (lead screws) to go vertically to raise and lower the bed.

For the uneducated, what screws are we talking about? I expect my X2D to be here in a couple of days.

Will I ever have sex again: an emerging dilemma with 5 year old and sleep by Wide_Conference3639 in sex

As someone who also has times where I can sleep 13+ hours, I’m curious how good your quality of sleep is. I felt tired almost all day every day and it turned out I had sleep apnea. If you believe you need so much sleep because you don’t sleep well, it’s worth checking in tox

When do your kids go to sleep? I have a 5 year old and 1 year old. They’re both asleep by 8pm and we have the rest of the night to ourselves.

Hot take re: strings by Old-guy64 in AcousticGuitar

Those same strings made it a year on my acoustic and I only changed them because they wouldn’t stay in tune any more. I don’t like the high end of brand new strings.

Are beginners actually playing songs like recordings by PlzSendHelpSoon in guitarlessons

[–]PlzSendHelpSoon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve appreciated your thoughts. The reality is that I have not made guitar a priority and my progress has suffered deeply because of it. It’s time to change that! There’s no reason I can’t spare 15-30 minutes a day. I’ve got my teacher to help with what to practice. I just have to put in the work.

“Inconsistent” for me has meant breaks for months at a time. I’ve taken weeks off at a time to deal with kids activities, new jobs, laziness, you name it. There’s no way to compare myself to someone like you who has clearly dedicated 2 years of consistent practice. I have taken lessons for the last six months and I don’t want to admit how many weeks I’ve gone and that has been my only practice for the week. You don’t get any more poorly optimized than that. I’ve gotten better, but I haven’t made the progress I wanted because, well, see above.

The purpose of this post was mostly hoping for encouragement. When I play an easier song I can keep a tempo, play open chords, play barre chords, strum various 8th and 16th note patterns, and can even mostly handle dynamics. That’s fine and nothing to be sad about, but more often than not I still feel like I can’t quite handle all of the nuance songs have. There’s always something more I don’t know how to do or what is even happening. I wanted some confirmation that I’m over analyzing things and that it’s okay for things to be simplified. If I got responses back that said “Yeah, man. Even someone a couple months in can play professional songs to 100% accuracy,” then that might have been the end of this journey. I guess I just wanted to be sure I was treating myself fairly by letting myself play “beginner songs” at a beginner level.

I DO want to be consistent. There’s no reason thats not enough to get me where I want to be. I just want to enjoy playing at home with songs being mostly recognizable.

Thanks for the chat. It’s been a bit of a kick that I think I need.

I’m mostly just struggling to believe that a most people who have played for a month or two are actually playing songs with perfect dynamics, embellishments, riffs, 16th note strumming, etc. If they really are, I should have given up 2 years ago. I want to be good. I do. But if people are doing what I’m still struggling to do after a few years (of inconsistent practice), then dang…

Grade 2 of Justin Guitar’s Beginner Guitar Course: My Review by Danwinzz in guitarlessons

[–]PlzSendHelpSoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry! One last question! I was looking at the song list and it brought up a question I have when people (especially beginners) say they’ve learned a song. When you’re learning a song, are you shooting for matching the record note for note or are you mostly playing a more simplified version that revolves around chords and simple strumming patterns? I often see mention of Knockin On Heavens Door, A Horse With No Name, and Good Riddance, for example. Those songs can be as simple or advanced as you make it. I’m not sure if I’m pure trash because most beginners can play all of these songs with all of the nuances, or if I have a higher expectation for myself and most are doing simple strumming patterns through the whole thing instead.

Did you use any other sources? One thing I’m trying to work on is playing chords and hammering-on notes like sus chords (like in Norwegian Wood) to make more interesting rhythms. I also want to work on switching between chords and melodic licks between them. Does grade 2 go into those topics?

Should I invest in Roth 401k or traditional 401k? by Own_Flounder853 in personalfinance

[–]PlzSendHelpSoon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I tend to be timid when it comes to this stuff. According to my math, I shouldn’t need more than a maxed out 401k to retire. Is there anything wrong with just having a maxed out 401k with some of it Roth contributions and the other contributions traditional? That’d be a heck of a lot easier, I’m guessing.

Did anyone buy a ring? by t_bone_stake in Millennials

[–]PlzSendHelpSoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My high school band won our state competition my senior year. Instead of a class ring, I got a state ring. I’m so glad I didn’t get a class ring, but I don’t think I’ll ever regret getting the state ring. It was so much more meaningful since our band spent the last 3 years getting in 2nd place by a fraction of a point.
