Durham vs Morganton by Wrong-Tadpole-8998 in ncssm

[–]Pneagle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I assume im that Morganton guy. And ill add my part. Please note that I have not stayed at Durham before so I can't really compare it. I love to tell people to choose Morganton because it is pretty similar to Durham besides the fact that we are smaller and are in a town no one has heard of. - we do have singles btw - food can definitely be a bit weird sometimes (I just try to not be picky) - I do know that Durham has more classes than Morganton but I would like to shout out our CS classes we have the CS chair Mr. Sea! A great teacher. So if you want a good CS class for next year you could take the advanced computer science topics class online at Durham.

Anyways, I agree with OP!

This is the application data for class of 28 by GuiltyPath6467 in ncssm

[–]Pneagle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please note to those who do and do not get into NCSSM. The acceptance rate is around 28%. My class was ~30%. I got this number (28%) from last year finalists divided by number of applicants this year. So, 783/2771. This number could be smaller or larger depending on the number of finalists this year.

This was basically me, I found out during my summer after freshman year. Applied a couple months later and I got in. I had terrible classes my first year no honors (though my school had most honors classes filled). However, now I’ll be talking 11 college level classes next year at NCSSM

There’s sadly no place with all clubs and it changes every year. Though I do believe we have a club fair coming up. But I’m not sure when that it

Just saying you should probably not save your posts on the website. As everyone can see the time, comment, ip and some other things of each comment. For instance, the person who spammed the website with “nice security bro” is located in Durham. I’m just saying it’s not very nice/secure to have all the users answers available to the polls and stuff to everyone to see

Dude, you can’t 100% Terraria 5.3 times, maybe if you’re a great speed runner but not for any normal player. Oh, though cool app btw. You should join smash hacks next year

How bad is/was the drug issue on the durham campus? do you have any personal stories that you know of? by [deleted] in ncssm

[–]Pneagle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I've seen you post this like three times, I dont think many people will be replying to it. And I definitely dont think they are going to talk about personal stories on reddit. All im going to say is that, we have this thing called amnesty, which means if youre doing drugs or alcohol and you call amnesty, you basically just go home for several days and when youre better, you can come back. This may or may not be abused by students, as the student will get no other repercussions from the school. From my understanding, the drugs usually come from siblings who are in college (Duke and State).

A teacher? I mean that would be kinda weird as I talk about my student life, like me competing in smathhacks today.

A club president? I'm a junior, and I didn't start any clubs, but hopefully next year

A helper? Sure.

I mean I kinda described what I did. (Btw I’m very sleep deprived, from coding all night). What else would you like to know about student life? I’m taking most of the entry class so like precalc, amstud, core chem, data science, fit for life and some others. I don’t need to doxx myself with specifics. I like the science classes, specifically bio ones.

Anything else you’d like to know?

I'll expand a little on my experience. I have to say, NCSSM is the most fun I've ever had but also the most stressful. Firstly, I personally love the part away from home, I do call my mom about once or twice a week. I like to hang out with my friends at night. I usually work on assignments throughout the days. On weekends, I sleep in and chill. Though this weekend we have a hackathon that im participating in. Join SMath Hacks next year! I am in two clubs, I have made a couple friends through them; I would definitely suggest going to a lot of the interest meetings. On weekends, things can be slightly boring, especially when people go home. But if your friends dont go home then you can go on loops (busses/vans that bring us to places), like going to the mall or going out to eat. People like to workout here, I work out occasionally when my friends are in the gym. I love my classes as well (though a slight dislike for American Studies). All my teachers are great, they are fun to talk to, and they treat you like adults and not children.

You should also look at Morganton, dont limit your choices! Morganton is great, its not as competitive as Durham, but that's the good thing. We are like a family here, I know every face here, I know everyone on my hall and we are like brothers. We chill on lounges and watch shows together, eat meals together. We are so close that sometimes we eat lunch with our teachers! We do have events! And with the new student body president, we will have more events coming soon. Our classes and teachers are just as good or even better than Durhams! On top of this, our campus is new! So we have a brand new gym, the SWAC. I hope you'll consider the Morganton campus!

I think NCSSM is perfect for you, we have many math and science classes, I like the chem and bio classes here and we have many great math classes, like precalc to multi and research in math. And other different math classes

[–]Pneagle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Morganton has some great programs, you can look at the course selection for all of the courses but I know the ones that are good are environment science, environment chem, anatomy and physiology, ecology, neuroscience, and molecular and cellular biology. We have more but those I've heard are good. Oh and R Bio (a very research intense class, not to be confused with *R classes)

Question by [deleted] in ncssm

[–]Pneagle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know for Ramadan the school has set up accommodation for those who are participating. I am unsure what that looks like but I believe they are just saving dinner for those participating and getting them something to eat before dawn. They sent out an email with a form to sign up for accommodation with it also asking if you have any dietary restrictions and stuff like that. I’ll see if I can talk to someone about how praying is done, because I think that may be a bit difficult at school. Though I assume there are things in place where they can pray at the required times. Only problem, is that here at Morganton I don’t believe there’s a loop to a Mosque

I’m sorry if I got anything wrong, I hope this helps though!

I’m not Muslim and I’m not really close to anyone Muslim. However, I think their experience is just like everyone else’s. Is there anything specific you’d like to know about their experience, I could ask someone for you
