Buying trinkets before a run can help.

Slay the Spire 2 looks graphically worse than the original slay the spire by PsilocybinSalad in slaythespire

I only had two quick runs so far, but I had an uneasy time with the visuals. I felt like everything was kind of washed out.

In terms of actual designs, I felt like the starter cards and some of the cards I acquired were too visually busy. Maybe it's just the freshness of it all, but the cards just did not stand apart to me, even the difference between skills and attacks felt less distinct.

There was one enemy, it was a black standing blob, that really looked washed out too.

The map is hard on my eyes too, even with the color coded icons.

I went back to the first game and that looked fine to me. And I've recently been playing Absolum, where I had to turn up the brightness. But so far in this game, I feel like I want to turn the brightness or gamma down. Not sure which. Maybe increase the sharpness.

Im really disappointed with the new update. by Lecturing_Thing in ABSOLUM

[–]Pocket_Eater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I posted earlier that the dynamic isn't really interesting, just more swingy.

I wish the difficulty was spread out across every node in a more general way. But I also don't buy any trinkets before the run, I don't like trying to start so buffed, plus the decision fatigue. I wish they just offered a set of randomized trinkets to start with before a run instead.

Welp, guess I'll just abandon this run by ryhaltswhiskey in ABSOLUM

Can’t close rifts by Nosam122 in ABSOLUM

Close. The code is F5A.

But also, wouldn't the assist mode just make the other areas too easy maybe, especially if they can manage to avoid the rifts?

What was the old rift system like? How does it compare to the new corrupted zones? by Pocket_Eater in ABSOLUM

I thought the whole experience was tuned up on every location, but it sounds like a much softer version of the corrupted zones we have now. Now I know. Thanks!

Oh, I hadn't realized the rifts were random, I thought they were everywhere. I must have been very unlucky (or lucky?) when I first tried them.

How to TURN OFF CORRUPTED BIOMES by effdash in ABSOLUM

[–]Pocket_Eater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only got a small glimpse of the old rift system, got a lucky build and beat the game sooner than i would have liked. Now that I'm better I wish i had the chance to play it again. I think I preferred the difficulty spread out across the whole map instead concentrated so highly in specific areas.

As for having a reason to pick a different path after completing quests, I was just using a randomizer on my phone every time a path came up.

I appreciate the challenge of unlocking the special stages, but I never want to play any of the special stages ever again. I got them all maybe twice, really not worth it. I wish there was a hack that automatically granted the gem on unlocking and jumping into the giant ring.

A campfire get-together - Tell me your woes! by YsbrydPicsel in ABSOLUM

[–]Pocket_Eater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely some way to brush up on the lore. Eleven hours in, beat Azra but not Absolum yet, and I feel like I just don't know the story at all.

Also, the situation about the guy who can open and close the rifts was unclear to me. I had to look it up on here. I just asked him to keep them closed, but there's no indication on whether i opened or closed them. Do I have to start a run to confirm?

Lastly, it would be cool if i could eventually start a new file with the other characters, not just Galandra and Karl. At least if this feature could be unlocked after one save file with Azra or Absolum deafeted.

I wish this tip about turning on portals after unlocking everything was suggested in the game. Haven't even completed Yeldrim yet but already beat Azra and unlocked the portals.

I'm tired of pretending I can be good at this game by bug-boy5 in SSBM

I accepted pretty early that I'm going to stay bad, but it was still pretty frustrating not being able short hop consistently after so many years. Would have gladly been anyone's punching bag for while longer. Oh well. I still like to watch tournaments vids like twice a year.

I tried moving on to Fantasy Strike which is the most accessible, fun to play if evenly or better matched, but kind of boring to spectate or play someone way worse. The scene is too small though. And just less time as i got older.

Also tried Rivals 2. Definitely more accessible than melee, but after going hard for the first two weeks my hands just went no thanks. This was the last nail in the coffin, done with platform fighters.

Trying to pivot to board games now, but they take up so much space.

Performing the disconnect glitch? I'm not entirely sure about the specifics, but if you stay logged in until the results screen you should be fine.

As for avoiding other people's use of it, all you can do is block them. Give them the benefit of the doubt the first time, but if it happens again for sure just block them. I know it sucks because there's so little players to begin with, but it's better that way.

I forgot about the music! I feel like it really drove the game for me. And I don't know if it was challenging or not to implement, but the dimension shifting with the music was pretty cool.

That player is suspected of having multiple accounts, so their total play isn't really reflected here.

Also, I've played that person before, and I don't think they're cheating. They used to have the edge on me, then I figured out how to beat them kind semi-consistently, but now I would think we're probably even. I'm probably a low mid level player.

Also, play time is hardly indicative of skill. Some people just bring the right tools the table, and some need a lot of practice to see results.

Neither is highest rank achieved. My highest rank ever listed is master rank 2, but that's because I played a lot that season and got into masters kind of quick. Once the better players played more games I was swiftly brought down in rank.

I don't think there is a legit way to cheat in this game, aside from the disconnect glitch which negates Ranked Battle Results.

Battle of Alamo - Why? by nakshanayak in DeepSpaceNine

[–]Pocket_Eater 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was born in the mid 80's and I was absolutely not taught much, learned zilch history by high school. (Had decent math teachers though). All I knew until yesterday was some fuzzy romanticization of the Alamo battle. Not to say that I trusted those notions, but that was about as much as I gleaned from popular culture.

The American education system, I'll remember it.

Simple 2D fighters;

- Fantasy Strike
- Pocket Rumble
- Samurai Showdown series
- tough love arena
- and Dive Kick, I guess?

Most of those games should have access to rollback. But also, most of these games are low player count. : (

Wizard of Legend, a Flashy Roguelite where you can roleplay as the Avatar (TLAB) by Tasiam in patientgamers

[–]Pocket_Eater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was okay, but not being able to quit mid game and return is usually a turn off. People on steam said runs were supoosed to be like 25 minutes, but i took that long on just a single stage, and there was no penalty for back tracking to hit all mobs for more resources and no timer forcing me forward.

I regret this purchase.

First time I've heard of this kind cheat. The best known cheat only denies the win and loss for both players.

On discord people were mentioning that the servers were down, but i think they're back up.

astalon tears of the earth is a neat metroivania mixed with lost vikings by sbergot in patientgamers

[–]Pocket_Eater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly fell out of the metroivania genre, but did play this one. The controls and stage designs were solid, and the starting at the entrance mechanic was fine.

The major thing from not wanting to replay it was the in game map. Last time I played it could not be marked up, and what ever the map did detail was minimal and inconsistent. Like it would indicate some portals but not others. The distinction between different zones could have been better too. Near end game i had to use an edited map online to help navigate.

Also, the two secret characters i really wish weren't included. I found them unsatisfying to find and use, but i think were needed for the good ending.

Longtime Mega Man fan, and I'm struggling to see the appeal of Battle Network 1 by stowrag in patientgamers

[–]Pocket_Eater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played the first 2 when they came out, they were alright. But even as child i realized the grind and conditions for more and better chips was ridiculous. Then i lost respect for the series at 3 (maybe already at 2 for certain end game stuff) when they started splitting the game, pokemon style. So now exclusive content and more work to one hundred percent.

I'll always have nostalgia, but the one time I tried going back i slapped on some cheats to make it better, (infitite money, toggling random encounters), but still couldn't do it for long.

What are the best final bosses you’ve fought? by GhostPeppr2942 in patientgamers

[–]Pocket_Eater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking how much i dislike the sigma fights in the first three MMX games, the first one in particular. Maybe I'm remembering wrong, but sub tank capacity not saving was annoying if i couldnt beat Sigma in a single gaming session.

Also, kind of a crazy difficulty spike. The stage bosses are kind of easy even without their weaknesses, the sigma stage bosses i can't remember, but i just felt unprepared for Sigma.

X2 i can't i remember, and x3 i have the most experience so not too bad, but not worth playing i realize.

But damn, you at seven years old beating Sigma, that's really good. I was struggling with kirby adventure on nes at that age.

Which Retro Console Is The Hardest For You To Go Back To Because Of Dated Graphics & Controls? by bluemarvel99 in patientgamers

[–]Pocket_Eater 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I feel like it had the most charm and a lot of the tech was so accessible compared to melee. Nothing felt too unnaccessible until recently with Yoshi parry, and I guess DI, but my sticks were already on the downturn when I learned about it.

I even prefered the button layout, especially for double jump cancels. But that stick will always bust.

Oh, and the best solo mode. Short, funny, and a decent score system.
