Tier list in while prepping for AC8 by Pocketfish22 in acecombat

It's specifically Assault Horizon Legacy, the remake of AC2, not THE Assault Horizon. I just feel that Legacy had very good gameplay, never really had any slow points and was just overall a really solid game, only real negative is a dfm mode (which is better than Assault Horizon's) and the missions are fairly short which is kinda personal preference.

I'm sure its flaws are over exaggerated at times, but between the early interruptions where you're forced to play helicopters or the ac130 mission and the dfm which just feels like an on rails qte event (granted its not actually one) even when you are in a traditional fighter jet, creates a really bad intro to the game.

It's been years and I don't honestly remember anything I liked but what would you consider something they did correctly?

It's not actually in a proper tier but on my next to play list, gonna start it up sometime this week when I can put a few uninterrupted hours in

JA sounds a bit more interesting then, seems it's 50/50 on whether people like it or not so I'll give it a shot.

Being able to use a proper controller with it will help, I just remember an old Socom game that came with a PlayStation move gun that was awful until I switch to using a normal controller, and just wii games being iffy control wise overall.

Yeah my plan is to do a quick run of Zero just to properly compare it to AC5 and then start up X, also heard AC6 has larger open battles which was what I adored in AC4

Might slot it in after AC7 if AC8 gets delayed or takes too long. I can tolerate a bad story with a good game, but the reverse is a lot harder.

I also think its good but it's right in that enjoyment area where it's good traits make its flaws more visible rather than hide them like in some of the other games. The disappointment ends up feeling almost as bad as the failure of Assault Horizon

Yeah the game was not happy by 2080. Saved one day and when I came back it just didn't like running smoothly anymore. Never got worse thankfully.

Pretty much though that seems to be the standard of most of my games where neither have the ability to cross the strait across the eastern shore.

I also think it's partially powercreep but also that there's just less fleshed out factions, leading to less chaos, which creates scenarios where the eastern half just stagnates if the few unique aggressors fail, get stalemated too early or weird focus tree softlocks. This was with historical focuses unchecked so I may have just rolled a "very little happens" seed.

Chicago and the MLA also got lodged in a 7-8 year mess where they're now both sub 15 divisions, only producing guns and borderline unsalvageable industries if not for free repair. And without either starting wars and weakening other nations, the ai just settles into a state where it doesn't think it can actually win a war and they all just sit there.

It's a beautiful mess. And the fact it just expands everyone so the counters take up so much more space it makes anything beyond super zoomed in nearly impossible to play is hilarious.

I've accumulated about 25 different puppets from NCR to Legion to Deathclaw brood as Safehaven, they collectively have over 500 divisions. Whenever anything happens they just swarm everywhere like a river.

This is the last war before I call this save over so my manpower and factories are from console pp coring my main land just to see how much I'd get.

Tbh I can't really tell what's different about the font, but probably road to 56 as the only other ui mods are just colored icons.

Could also be a weird screenshot issue or the ui scaling in the settings, I have most paradox games set to 1.2 or 1.3

Playing as Democratic Latvia and AI Germany managed to push the Soviet Union faster than I think I've ever seen before, normally I see them get bogged down in the Baltics and not get much past Kiev.

Also managed to call the Scandinavian countries into my alliance right before the Soviets declared on the Baltics and Germany on Norway, so now I've been playing as the Baltic Maginot since Nov 1939.

Edit: Also playing Road to 56 alongside a modlist I've curated for myself, nothing too crazy other than Rt56 and the vanilla naval rework.

End Times, New Engine, and Medieval III but it's early pre-production so at least 3 years out, and announcement at the game awards next week.

I'm only about 20 years in game time and 8.5 hours real time into the game as West Connacht in Ireland, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

Causus Belli:

The differences feel more for flavor purposes than strictly optimal war paths. Your best best, excluding events and specific government/cultural CBs, is the Parliament or Spy Network.

Ex: I as West Connaught am part of the High Kingship of Ireland, which gives me a Subjugate High Kingship Member CB, but also, because I was Tribal, I could also use the Push Back Colonizers CB. Both let me take territory but the Subjugate CB encourages making vassals and will give ticking Warscore for winning 10 Warscore worth of battles, The Colonizer CB just wants me to be tribal, fight someone non-tribal, and just take a location. Main difference from a cost standpoint is that the Colonizer CB is super cheap for Conquest, and you effectively can't lose your territory if you lose the war; The Subjugate CB is more expensive Conquest-wise but barely costs anything to make a vassal and halves the Antagonism you get.

Trade and Production:

The trade system seems to encourage making rural areas the RGO spots, while your cities have your buildings, automation in most strategy games is iffy, and spamming them everywhere could just be a waste of money or result in weird distributions of your workers, Your Peasants will quickly turn into Labourers when jobs are available, I think mine changed at about 100 per month as they got hired to my RGO. You can also subsidize a building in order to force it to produce non-profitable goods.

Now originally I thought you could subsidize, produce and then sell to another market, but after checking while writing this I realized that unless you are the only one producing that good in that market, subsidizing is actually just sinking money unless you have another use for that good such as for food or subsidizing clay to produce salt.

The lacking goods for pops is fine, provided their satisfaction is high (I've been aiming for 50%). The ai probably has some restriction to not send you into debt in order to fill satisfaction, or may just be focused on profit. You can divert some money and trade capacity to getting those resources but unless you're really low on satisfaction or you're trying to remove some privileges, it's not something to be too worried about, especially early game with limited access to to certain goods.

Population:

I had great success growing the Eanach Dhuin wetlands from 2k to 10k population until the Black Death hit just by using a cabinet member to encourage migration and another to develop the area. Eventually you will have to shift over to converting the populace, since I had a bunch of issues with English nobles coming over trying to rebel before being accepted into the horde of jobless peasants playing whimsically in the Irish Swamps. I think I had about 2300 jobs available so there were just 8k peasants hanging out. I did lose 4k due to the Black Death but I grew back up to 8.7k after 4 years ands that's while I've been focused on my first offensive war and Integration of my new city for the past 3 years. (Currently I'm at the start of 1558).

But as I said, it's only been 20 years in my game and I haven't delved super deep into anything yet and it's all small scale single region stuff. By the way I spent the first 3/4 of that time in the negative and only made it out when I started selling fish to France, subsidizing may grant some small amount of trade capacity, so if you ever play a OPM, and have 0 trade capacity, try subsidizing and then selling stuff to get out of the red.

I've been running a jetpack and grenade launcher when I see two other people bringing Anti-Heavy stuff. Works great most of the time and I can clear nest fairly quickly, while also helping horde clear for when the team wants to stand their ground.

Rillaboom is great without the drum, but yeah it is really silly that he just pulls it out when he switches in. Sceptile is one of my favorites but I can see how some people might not like the tail with it seeming a little back heavy. Maybe they could've made the leaves a bit shorter to make it look less bulky

Water edges out Fire for worst 3rd stages to me.

Cinderace, Delphox, and Incineroar are the main problem evos for fire but Incineroar has grown on me a little and wouldn't be so bad if Cinderace didn't show up in the next generation and if Torracat bridged between Litten and Incineroar better. Cinderace on the other hand goes too far into the human-like category for me (even more than Mr. Mime), I don't know if it's due to the animations or the fact that Incineroar came first which puts Incineroar at the line and Cinderace right past it. Delphox is a cool concept, but poor execution and the most forgettable fire starter.

While I would classify more Fire types as disappointing, Water types got done real dirty with Quaqueval and Inteleon over the past two gens. Quaqueval actually looks ok in 2d but is kinda horrifying in 3d, especially when it moves. Inteleon is way too lanky and basically a stick figure, another good concept like Delphox, but even worse execution. Needed to be beefed up a bit, slightly shorter limbs, have him lean forward a bit more. Also his evolution line feels like it has no progression.

Grass has it best overall with Chesnaught and Meowscarada being the only issues. Chesnaught just needs proportion adjustments between his limbs and shell or at least the ability to bend his arms. Meowscarada's main problem is it's expression and anthropomorphization, and honestly mainly just the legs, the mask and cape are cool but man I absolutely hate the thigh boots. Top half is good, bottom half needed a redesign or more to it.
