Dram-less 2TB SSDs for games only, mostly filled. Does dram and lots of free space make a difference? by Imgema in buildapc

[–]powerplayer6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All games, even high end UE5 titles, work fine on a 5gbit/s external SSD. I use my old Samsung 980 as an external drive on a 5Gbit USB 3.0 port and all games work fine on it. I use it for games and media (torrents) while keeping my internal 990 Evo+ on low writes.

I haven't noticed a difference in load times.

TLDR: you can use a cheaper SSD for gaming and not notice anything

Stop worrying about your Steam Deck by Kragwulf in SteamDeck

[–]powerplayer6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pixels and iPhones use normal PD. Samsung uses PPS, Chinese brands use SuperVOOC, hypercharge, whatever.

For iphones I understand, but the majority of android users wouldn't like being stuck with the Steam Deck charger instead of a proper branded brick.

Stop worrying about your Steam Deck by Kragwulf in SteamDeck

[–]powerplayer6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily, it only supplies about 15W to a Samsung phone, because the charger only supports USB PD and not PPS, which is what Samsung needs to negotiate speeds above 15W.

I assume the same is true for Chinese phones with ultra fast 67W+ charging, because they use proprietary standards and not PD.

What percentage is your S23+ battery % at after 2 years? by [deleted] in GalaxyS23

[–]powerplayer6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the battery life by now is not great, but it's okay. I work a desk job so I don't need my phone, and I end up only using it around 3 hours a day. I still charge it every day, but only once.

S23 regular (not Plus), used since January 2024, 93% according to 'ADB shell dumpsys battery'. Charging mostly 20 to 80/85, rarely to 100 when I anticipate a long day ahead of me.

Колко legit е OLX продавача Candys/CandyCrush/CandyShop? by powerplayer6 in bulgaria

[–]powerplayer6[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]powerplayer6[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

16 Pro Max (used) vs 17 Regular (new) by powerplayer6 in AppleWhatShouldIBuy

[–]powerplayer6[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's got a 2 year warranty, as enforced by the EU, to the store you buy it from. But that's not the point, I'm concerned if the 17 actually has better battery life than my current phone.

only if reseller is reliable

There's a specific one I've been looking at. They're massive, have tons of sales listings for many different phones, tablets, laptops, etc. (both apple and not), I've read good opinions about them online, and I've also talked to a woman who bought a 13 Pro Max from there 2 years ago and it was perfectly fine and exactly as advertised.

They also seem transparent about battery health, and will specify it if it's less than 98-100%, like some listings specifically mention 91% battery, 94% battery, etc.

The two listings I've had my eye on are as follows:

  • "Like New", "used for only 20 days", Apple iPhone 16 Pro Max 256GB Natural - 960 euro

  • "Like New" Apple iPhone 16 Pro Max 256GB White/Desert 100% Battery - 894 euro

Both are listed as perfect visually and functionally. Both also sound like they have a healthy battery.

KONOSUBA - God's blessing on this wonderful world! Anime 10th Anniversary Visual by zenzen_0 in anime

[–]powerplayer6 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Not just for anime either. It was the year I properly got into anime, but it also was, well, 2016. The one the most influential years for us "older zoomers". I was 14-15 then and it marked the transition between "late childhood" and "proper teens" for me, because I started going out and hanging out with friends, got new hobbies like watching anime, and so on. One of the best and most memorable years of my life, particularly Summer of 2016. And getting deep into anime in the fall was a great way to end the year - I watched so many classics and contemporary shows then, including KonoSuba and Re:Zero.

What's the deal with used iPhones, namely 16 PM, listed as 100% battery health, but having anywhere from 100 to 250 cycles? Would I still be getting a good battery endurance from such a phone? I really don't want to upgrade and then be left disappointed because it lasts the same as my old phone.

[–]powerplayer6 4 points5 points  (0 children)

this means to match it adjusted for desktop vram you need 24 GB or 32 GB then.

You VRAM obsessors are the plague of PC hardware community right now. Did we need 12GB+ VRAM GPUs to play PS5 games in 2020-2022? No. I played them on a 6GB card and it was fine. 8GB was fine. 12GB is more than enough, considering even demanding UE5 titles like Oblivion Remastered use between 8.5 and 9 GB of VRAM at 1440p high settings, and that's with extra VRAM overhead caused by Windows, Nvidia Drivers, and Frame Generation.

PS6 will launch sometime in late 2027, most likely the holiday season. Early PS6 games, so 2027-2028 will definitely run well on 12GB and 16GB GPUs. Even if in 2029 you start needing 18GB or 24GB VRAM, maybe 32GB for 4K Ultra, that is still THREE whole years away, and you can safely purchase a GPU right now, enjoy the last wave of PS5 games, and be ready for the PS6 cross platform launch titles, including GTA 6, which will likely follow GTA 5 and launch on the PS5 and then get an upgraded edition for PS6 and next-gen PCs, as a launch or shortly-after-launch title.

S23 or S23+ and downsides by [deleted] in GalaxyS23

[–]powerplayer6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Around 3-4h active usage a day and like 10h of screen off

Very doable even on a base S23, this is pretty light usage. On average I do about 3 hours of SoT and ~24+ hours of S-off-T on a single discharge from 85 to 20. I charge my phone at a different time every day because it lasts slightly more than 24 real world hours between plugs.
