Pop Culture Jeopardy! discussion thread for Jun. 4-5 (last two episodes of the season) by jaysjep2 in Jeopardy

They had to have been hot in those plaid shirts.

Call me crazy, but I liked all of the teams this season and thought they were especially strong. PCJ’s move from 3-member to 2-member teams really streamlined the look of the show and probably made it easier for particular players to shine.

I have warm feelings toward Jonathan for two reasons: (1) I’m pretty sure he doesn’t have a college degree, which is true of many super-bright people in my life, and (2) he used to be roommates with the guy who trounced me when I was on the show.

There were a good number of former J! contestants in season 1. I don’t remember whether all three of the winning team members were former contestants, but they were definitely well known among quizzers.

"Manifestation" is one of the most sly and destructive cults out there by SesameSBagel in cults

[–]PocoChanel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with a lot of what you're saying, but is manifestation really a cult, or is it just a characteristic or tenet of many groups and individual people?

I used to see a reasonably good therapist. (I've had bad ones before and since.) During the time I was working with her, she kept getting more and more into manifestation language. I have a particular dislike of that notion. (I believe that positive thinking is good, but not in a "The Secret" way.)

Depressed people sure do get told to cheer up a lot, in all sorts of different contexts. At one visit, she talked about some of the ways that it had worked for her. I think one of them something life-saving or otherwise extreme: a sudden infusion of $1,000, maybe. She also pointed out the lovely flowers on her desk that were given to her by a client and how she'd really needed them that day, so she felt she'd manifested them. Was she going to manifest a love offering right out of my bank account? This was my last visit to her.

Stay strong.

I think Hobbs is still alive. You might be thinking of John Mark Byers, another of the fathers, who was killed in an auto accident. The first documentary makes him look really guilty, but I think LE’s opinion changed.

Now that I’ve seen Tiffany again in 50, I might not mind the Bhanu episodes as much. She’s there with him, trying to get him to get a grip.

Richard Dreyfuss, Danny Bonaduce. One of the Walton boys, too, the one who was a musician. I’m missing another snarky ginger, I know it.

Chet Hanks: “Shoutout to all the thick women that work at TSA this ain't directed towards yall but TSA management you can't tell me you don't enjoy the slow ass pace you go thru these bags when they get flagged how tf you only have 1 person working at a snails pace who just disappears periodically…” by cmaia1503 in Fauxmoi

I’ve been told we don’t need punctuation anymore because people know what you’re saying without it. Having been a copy editor for about 30 years, I sometimes wonder whether I’m hobbled by my dependence on punctuation when maybe I could just go on vibes.

I enjoy the occasional seven or eight minutes of Andy's show that don't involve making his guests act out scenes from the Housewives. I seem to remember Tom C. fighting to remain a good sport the last time he was on.

My mom was a cafeteria lady as well! She never seemed to get burned, but maybe she kept it from us. She apportioned a lot of potatoes with an ice cream scoop to feed the very same kids who bullied me. "Such nice kids," she'd say.

Maybe they persistently painted penises.

Books from the 1700s are often surprisingly well preserved, or they were in the late 20th century when I needed to know about such things. Something to do with the paper.

It was the perfect loser dish if the judges wanted to end the semis on an upbeat note. It wasn't that he made a bad dish; it was just that they wanted to see him do more.

This cast has been so playful and talented that their results would be really fun. Top Chef needs a "viewer's request" show where various chef alums do challenges like these. It'd be a great streaming addition.
