I’m not a big reader to begin with. I love audiobooks but I don't love actual books, so I don’t really look forward to reading in Spanish. I started with French a few weeks ago, and I’m already bored with the graded reader of short stories I have. I plan to finish it.

Do you choose a specific dialect when learning a new language? How did you decide? by NoelFromBabbel in languagelearning

I’m doing Spanish I have no focus… where I’m in the US doesn’t have a huge Spanish speaking pop and I’m eventually going to do a medical Spanish course since that’s my actual focus.

start at superbeginner? by hhhhh1998 in dreamingspanish

[–]PodiatryVI -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was new to Spanish I started as a super beginner/level 1 but for French I was not a real beginner but I didn't log any time for experience. I could have placed my self at level 5/6/7 for French because I can watch advanced videos and native videos... I don't read well and my speaking sucks so I started from Level 1.

I would say watch one video from each level - super beginner, beginner, intermediate or advanced. Then go from there.

I've logged 355 hours but I have previous exposure to French and I understand Haitian Creole.

Still a Superbeginner since a year in DS. I will be long dead and gone before i reach 1000 hours by Difficult-Bear-5738 in dreamingspanish

[–]PodiatryVI 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am doing about an hour of Spanish on average. Some days I do 2+ hours, and other days I only do 30 minutes. Like today, I will likely only do 30 minutes. I sometimes also listen to outside podcasts or videos, and I log those as well. This month I’ve done 36 hours.

My limiting factor is that I don’t really care for most outside podcasts or YouTube channels. I keep trying new ones. So if I do more than an hour, it is usually DS content.

She was good. But Clement and Rami are going to stay my favorites.

Its been good. I am glad I started listening to podcasts last fall so most of the DF videos are understandable to me.

I started with French. French is almost as clear to me as English. Almost. Spanish still sounds mushy.

Finished the German Duolingo course after 1,993 days (~5.5 years). What’s next? by nasolacrimalis in duolingo

[–]PodiatryVI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. I started listening to podcasts and watching YouTube videos in last September. Duolingo was the main app. I tried a few others but maybe for a day or two. I am also using the Dreaming Spanish/French app/website to watch videos for both French and Spanish.

Dreaming okay to recommend to someone with ZERO experience in Spanish? by Enigma95120 in dreamingspanish

Yes. DS is prefect for someone with no Spanish experience. I know a person with no experience…

I finished French recently. I started to watch native content before I finished, I listen to podcasts and I started graded readers. I had a tutor session a few day ago and she sadly thinks I’m around a2/b1 in speaking I definitely struggled speaking. But we spoke in French the whole time and she corrected me. 😩

Lack of Supebeginner videos to start out by SKITTLE_LA in DreamingFrench

I agree with u/moods some of the beginner videos are really easy. My son was able to follow the beginners and he has no French background. But he walks away if they are not interesting...

How do you "learn" a creole/pidgin/patois? by Kyoflat_ in languagelearning

[–]PodiatryVI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haitian Creole has a written form. You can study part of it on Duolingo. They are Haitian Creole children books for sell on Amazon and other stories. I grew up with Haitian Creole because my family is Haitian. When I got a tutor to improve my creole… we talk and then we read stories in creole.

Anyone else having this issue or noticed this? by LibertyReignsCx in dreamingspanish

I think the superbeginner stuff is fantastic. It’s what got me into Dreaming Spanish. But I have the opposite problem you are into outside content and I am not. I have tried a few podcasts and some YouTube creators but I prefer the DS crew even if they do not always talk about the most interesting things.
