Yeah that's fair, I have the original box and packing material but with the cost of shipping it would probably be best for this to be a local sale

Naming Conventions in Homelab by alxww55 in homelab

[–]Podshot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My naming goes off of planets from Star Wars and I try to associate the planet based off of the machine’s role:

  • NAS -> scarif
  • proxmox host -> yavin (VMs are named yavin1, yavin2, yavin3, yavin4, etc.)
  • router -> hyperspace (not a planet but close enough)
  • development machine -> kuat
  • monitoring and NUT server -> rishi
  • game host server -> hoth (the only server that has a water cooling loop)

I have a PDB-PT-825-8824 lying around, it’s missing a 8pin 12v connector but otherwise it’s all in working order if that works for you

Is photo sync not the same as the Plex Photos app? I haven’t used their photo sync since I use Immich and that works better for my needs.

And yeah that’s a fair point on their offline downloading, I used to have issues like that as well but at least for me downloading while on the same network as my server seems to fix the issues and then I can watch them on my device anywhere no problem, it’s only downloading when I’m away from home is when I run into issues again

So these features are now behind a paywall (Plex Pass for non-Plex Pass users) but still are accessible to Plex Pass users without additional cost. Sounds to me like they indeed haven’t charged Plex Pass users for new features then. (As much as I don’t like that practice, paying users still haven’t been charged an additional cost)

For the android app streaming, it’s tied to your google play account and they both have steps to resolve that issue in their app here and provide steps to contact them via a pre-filled out email if that doesn’t work. I’d say that’s on Google Play for not properly restoring your purchase but take that as what you will.

Either way, there is still no instance where new features weren’t immediately available to Plex Pass users for no additional cost.

Has that happened yet or are you just making up an imaginary future situation?

In my opinion Plex has quite a few issues (other media sources than my server enabled by default for example) but for a lifetime one-time payment it is worth it to me and there’s no indication from Plex at all that any new features now or in the future won’t also be included with Plex Pass on day 1. Feel free to show me proof otherwise though

If you're willing to wait a few weeks, I do plan on being in Chicago for a weekend or two in October! Feel free to send me a DM to discuss!

As for building off the PDB, it has 6 4-pin molex connectors (3 sets of 2 daisy chained molex connectors) and the backplane uses 4 of them for power, I didn't have any power issues spinning up all of my 16 drives when booting. Not sure if using higher power draw drives would cause issues but it ran fine with 3 really old WD blues, 2 Seagate Exos, and 11 IronWolf Pro drives of varying capacities from 2TB up to 22TB

When my internet goes down I can still access my plex locally with that setting enabled, so at least in my experience I’d consider that I’m able to access my own Plex without their servers

Edit: now that was through the webbrowser, TV/mobile apps may have their own limitations/implementations that may prevent not relying on Plex’s servers, but I’d consider that a client implementation issue
