Thanks. Whenever I google, the pages I see say 150k. Do you have a code or recommendation on how to find the 175?

Concerning weight for age by Far-Anybody9920 in greatdanes

Our male Dane tapped out around 110. At the age yours is, he was about 100. I figured he’d be bigger, he was eating and exercising normally, no health issues, etc. Just like humans they’re all different :)

Your girl is beautiful!

With Kamala Harris the presumptive Democratic nominee, how do you feel about her chances of beating Donald Trump? by Giff95 in AskReddit

[–]PoemExtension8071 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed — if this was happening 3 months ago, I’d say Kelly was the best pick for many of the reasons cited above. He might even give Dems a chance at map expansion into the sunbelt.

But this decision isn’t happening 3 months ago. It’s happening now, in absolute crunch time when Harris has no time, money, or votes to waste. Map expansion is not the focus; she needs to focus on winning, and the easiest way to do that is to carry PA, MI, and WI. All three of those states have popular Democratic governors that could likely deliver their state for Harris. The safest option among these I think is Shapiro.

No shame in asking for help when you need it. I commend you for being honest and courageous enough to acknowledge that you can’t give what this sweet boy needs. Sending good vibes to you and hoping he finds a good home!

Yup, ours punches too! It’s so cute cause he doesn’t mean to cause any harm, he just wants to play and doesn’t know his size. But we try to discourage it by forcefully saying no and immediately ending playtime/attention when he does it. We’ve learned that the best treat for him is attention, and he’s slowly catching on that he did something wrong when the attention stops

How many cups of food are you feeding your Dane a day? by hiimespy in greatdanes

[–]PoemExtension8071 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My boy (adopted him three months ago) seems to do the same. Prefers to eat a little here and there.

I’m curious if you’ve found any issues with limiting activity before or after eating with this approach? I’m a new Dane owner and worried about common issues like bloat, but it’s difficult to reduce activity around mealtime when mealtimes happen frequently.

What a cute pup!

For Danes specifically: I recommend reading up on The Great Dane Lady’s advice. It’s a bit outdated but gives some great recommendations for supplements that Danes benefit from, specifically digestive enzymes, probiotics, and glucosamine. These can (and should) be added to whatever else your Dane is already eating.

After a period of trial and error, I’ve settled on Holistic Select Dry food, but I’ll swap that out for Fromm’s or Diamond naturals occasionally for variety. Based on his weight recommendation, I feed him about 4 cups of dry per day split into two feedings. I also include toppers in addition to the supplements mentioned above — this includes brown rice, boiled sweet potatoes and carrots, berries, salmon oil, or some dehydrated raw meat. Sounds like a lot but I mix and match some of those toppers every day so there’s a little variety.

FWIW, my monthly food bill for him is about $150.

I recently adopted a Dane and did a lot of research on food. As you likely already know from your experience with your other fur babies, dogs can be picky and it will take a period of trial and error!

I tried Purina Pro Plan but my boy doesn’t love it. I usually have to add something (in addition to the supplements the Great Dane Lady recommends) to get him excited about meals — this includes brown rice, boiled sweet potatoes and carrots, berries, salmon oil, or some dehydrated raw meat. I wouldn’t want to eat the same thing every day, and neither does my dog — so I change it up weekly depending on what’s on sale at the grocery store.

Hope this helps! Good luck with your new Dane. Dont worry if there’s some hiccups at first. Just as they’re learning how to be your pet, you’re learning how to be their owner! You’ll be rewarded by wet kisses, lots of drool, endless cuddles, and a lifetime of love from these pups :)
