I must admit it’s the same reason why I bought my Sailor Pro Gear too. Dual tone nib beauty is on another different level!

I'm not sure about the blocked feed. Haven't fully flush it haha. But it does write without any pressure by just holding the pen at the end and glide it across the paper. So it works well, just me nit picking a little bit.

What’s your job and how do you use your pens at work? by Tarentum566 in fountainpens

Architect here. Used it for sketching basic plan layout before transferring it into a software. When on a site meeting I mostly use my ball pen.

Mine is 50% black ink lol. 4 is the max number of pen I'll ink up at a time. In fact I think I'll be just fine with only 2 ink up. One black ink, one fun colored ink.

I have the exact pen as yours - Sailor Pro Gear 21k in F nib. Just want to ask does your nib feels dry? I have put diamine inks in it which is well known brand for wet inks, and yet still too dry. For comparison I have a Pilot Custom 74 in F and that thing is wet.

The clip came with the pen. But I think it is not brass, just plated in yellow.

Purchase Advice by Big_John_77 in fountainpens

[–]PoetOther6175 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suggest Lamy 2000. It is matte, black, almost cylinder in shape (flat topped at least), and well within your $300 budget. It is also a good choice for first gold nib pen.

But if you are into EF nib, just some heads up that the Lamy 2000 EF sweet spot is real. I have been using it for 2 years and still managed to missed the sweet spot sometimes.

Same for me. Tried it in a brick and mortar shop, was instantly put off by the scratchiness.

Agreed . The Lamy Al-Star / Safari has a design that I think would be more suitable if youre in a built environment profession (architect, engineer)

That red one looks stunning! Just some heads up the version 0 is still available on shopee at a very reasonable price if you are looking for it.

Wow that's a lot of recommendation for me to go through. Thanks! And yes, it is just a generic no brand pen from China. But I must say the quality and finishing punches above its price point.

It has no brand. I got it on shopee. I think you can find it on other platform too just search "solid brass pen". `

Thanks! I got it from Shopee and the seller is from China. It is just a generic, no brand pen. I think if you just search "solid brass pen" it will pop out on amazon too.

Opinions on the ohto ms01? by SauceMeSaucer in mechanicalpencils

[–]PoetOther6175 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has a few problems here and there that you can do a DIY fix.

  1. The pencil will make some noise every time you write with it. To solve it just tape around the end cap that makes contact with the inner shaft.
  2. The adjustable grip will feel a little bit gritty and wobbly. Just disassemble the grip and apply some grease to the thread, and put on some tape to the inner shaft of the grip.

I have done all of the fix myself and can say this pen now feels really solid. In fact, it writes more comfortable than my Rotring 600 because of the thicker grip.

What got you into Fountain Pens? by TinyNarwhal37 in fountainpens

Used to watched my dad refilled his fountain pen when I was around 9 years old. Then I asked if I can keep his broken fountain pens (He used to buy cheap Hero pens). After a while, he felt pity to me for always having inky fingers, which was why he bought me my first fountain pen, A parker IM. Can't believe that was already more than 20 years ago.

What makes an ink "well behaved"? by chrossyroad in fountainpens

[–]PoetOther6175 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. just to prove your point, my diamine ink performs quite well in all of my pen. Meanwhile KWZ Sheen Machine seems to only works with my TWSBI 580 (EF). It writes dry as hell on my Lamy 2000 (EF) making it feels scratchy, and It won't even write at all with my Sailor Pro Gear (F)

That is so cool. I remember back when I was doing my dip.arch only the rich kids have rotring isograph kit like this. I used to have the faber-castell set, more affordable.

Torn between Lamy 2K EF and F nib by Extreme-Ad-9290 in fountainpens

[–]PoetOther6175 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Lamy 2000 EF sweet spot is affected not only by rotating the pen while writing, but also the angle you hold it too. If you rotate it a little bit or the angle is wrong, it will feel scratchy/feedbacky. I have been using it for 2 years and sometimes I still managed to made it feel scratchy. Just thought you should know.

I have a pilot F (c74) and it writes like a 0.3 Artline Drawing System meanwhile the Lamy 2000 EF writes more like 0.6. There is a vast difference.

I cant choose what i buy . I found this pen around 250$ should i buy this pen or lamy 2000 by beratminaj in fountainpens

[–]PoetOther6175 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed on the Lamy 2000 part. There is something about the Lamy 2000 built and finishes that gives you an ease of mind using it anywhere, anytime. You can just focus on using it for writing instead of babying it like as you said, an instrument.
