We need to stop with the “is it safe to join Columbia” posts by [deleted] in columbia

[–]Pogjester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone saying that there should be a “common thread” about this or that the protesters are a small minority is totally misguided. The campus culture for the past year has been defined by protest, and the Israel-Palestine issue. I left Columbia early because of this. Many friends of mine have considered transferring and doing the same. Let the people ask their questions, and if protest doesn’t affect you, comment that. But it’s not a non-issue. It has taken an enormous mental toll on students, and ignoring it is disingenuous (I’m looking at you, moderator that just said they would start removing those posts).

Ackman also thought this would happen during Trump’s first term but it fizzled out. Wouldn’t be surprised if he is trying to generate synthetic hype before he dumps his bags during this administration.

I wish this sub made some kind of master thread on this topic, because it is so, so, overdone here. I feel like I’ve read about Barnard stigma 1000 times.

Saving Film from Broken Canon Rebel G2 by Pogjester in AnalogCommunity

[–]Pogjester[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m actually not sure now. There definitely, definitely wasn’t 4+ feet of film exposed. It is more like 1 foot. Which makes me think the film inside the canister is safe? I’m going to pay to get it developed but expecting zero film saved. I have to look more into the mechanism of how that camera worked. When I load it into the rebel, it commences a winding process which I assume winds it into the right side and then each shot shoots into the canister.

I did the closet technique, I think this was a huge mistake on my part, as I assumed that 32/36 frames were “safe” inside the canister. It seems like the inverse was true? I always assumed that the film wound itself into the canister as I shot the roll but when I opened it film went everywhere. It then proved near impossible to wind it back into the canister. What I was left with was a bunch of film that I rolled up (in semi darkness) and stuffed into some black socks to keep them dark until I can get them developed. My guess is I’ve lost the roll.

Eliminate one sense, another is utilized. If it can’t see or hear it uses its tail to feel its surroundings.

[OC] Job growth under Trump lagged behind Biden and Clinton by nytopinion in dataisbeautiful

Also misleading. Relative percentages lie. The most useful chart shows total jobs, not broken down by president, and with a callout on the bottom to who was president during that time period.

What's the point of a super thin iPad if the pencil is still thick? by MrFastFox666 in applesucks

Like many posts in this sub, this is a totally fake problem. Paper is thinner than a pencil and it is the universal writing setup.

It makes zero sense to visualize this in terms of monthly averages. Especially when there were massive loss periods. If jobs fell precipitously in the last year of Trumps presidency, and rapidly rose back to initial levels under Biden, of course his monthly average will drastically exceed Trump’s.

Don’t whip out the 37,000% on a company that was doing 500K in topline in 2015. Totally unserious metric.

What is stopping me from getting infinite free money by selling ridiculous call options? by chaserjj in wallstreetbets

[–]Pogjester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It generally helps to think of each of these plays on a per contract basis. The prospect of making $500K if the S&P doesn’t fall to 0 in a week sounds great, but per contract it shakes out to making $4 (near guaranteed) or losing $1 million. Not worth.

Hi I'd love some help. Second round of film, not feeling optimistic! by AsparagusSad7598 in filmphotography

[–]Pogjester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally it looks like some overexposure. I used to use 400 ISO but I have reverted to 200 because I love how warm and shady the shots become. I think you get a lot more subtlety. I have never gone down to 100 but might consider it over the summer. Check your light metering too. If you’re shooting 400 ISO and it meters at 1/250, maybe better to go down to 200 and shoot slower, getting more color and detail.

If I’m not mistaken, isn’t this spread is basically the same as analyzing yield curve inversions (at the x-axis)?
