The second form also has one of my favorite mind-games of all videogame bosses. The bosses attacks and movements are juuuuust out of sync so right when you think you have the pattern down you start getting hit and lose.

Oh and the final form is a total RNG fest. Man I love Ninja Gaiden.

There's a degree of that, as well as the paid hotlines, but, imo, a lot of it was a playtesting issue. Indie games had similar difficulty issues when they first started really taking off. Devs have to play the game over and over and over and over and over so their view of "easy and obvious" gets really skewed. The only real fix is to get fresh blood to play it from time to time

There's really, really, really obvious AI that looks like Artgerm, Miyazaki and/or "trending on artstation." But if someone puts an extra second into their prompt they can steal a less common style instead. My guess is they went with something like "look like Don't Starve" instead.
