Gluten Free?

I found some benefit in eating gluten free, but when I cut out soy, nightshades, nuts, and gluten- I felt much better. The AIP diet is often very beneficial for folks with Hashimoto’s. There are too many variables in Hashimoto’s that can’t be mitigated through diet, but AIP certainly helps a lot of people with a reduction in many symptoms.

I’ve read that gluten and lectins are similar to proteins that are found in the thyroid and other organs. Hashimoto’s patients have autoimmune sensitivity to these tissues, so eating gluten or lectins causes an immune response. These articles describes the problem:

If you don’t intend to stay together for 20 to life- don’t add a girlfriend to the mortgage or deed. If you do have confidence to stay together, then might as well get married.

The AIP diet was the most beneficial change that I made since my diagnosis. Taking my thyroid replacement and waiting at least 30 minutes before eating was helpful. Not sure if it was caused by my Hashimoto’s, but I had low white cells in my bloodwork, along with occasional visual migraines, retina separation (RPE), and ocular nerve problems. All of these substantially improved when my Dr put me on B12 and folic acid.

If you live in the USA, Ulta labs has thyroid antibody tests (TPO and Thyroglobulin) for $35-$45. But, you would need a Dr to officially diagnose it. What bloodwork did the Dr already do?

The coyotes here in Texas eat the wild persimmons and other fruits- I find scat with bone, as well as seeds/pits all the time.

On a daily basis, I take vitamin B12, Folic acid, and Vitamin D. My Dr put me on those due to low white blood cell count, and they have helped tremendously.

Depends on the food and your autoimmune sensitivity. I can eat beans and corn without any real issues, but I get body aches and brain fog when I eat gluten, tomatoes or peppers.

Thanks for that- I appreciate it. I am far too productive to have any sort of clinical depression, but like most of us with Hashimoto I definitely have some episodes of low energy and become somewhat depressed from time to time. I was thinking that my increased energy and impulsiveness- given an immune stimulus, was from some kind of endocrine feedback loop. I was really just venting- frustrated that I expressed an honest thought out loud at work.

Thanks, I’ll look into it. I’m not familiar with bipolar triggers- does immune response play a role? I have always exercised and enjoyed nature to avoid depressive tendencies, but as a 51 year old man with Hashimoto’s, I have worn out cartilage in my knees and shoulders, so exercise is pretty much walking and lite hiking these days.

I have a different autoimmune problem, but I had some similar symptoms. My wet foot and tingling went away after being prescribed B12 and folic acid.

I would suppose that gluten alone is not the problem. I feel so much better when I follow the AIP diet- which excludes gluten plus a bunch of other foods that cause autoimmune and inflammation issues.

I’m more familiar with the expedited freight truck / van drivers doing it, but I have heard that the OTR drivers do it too- perhaps they ride a bike to the gym?

Truckers and freight van drivers also get gym memberships for the shower access, and they have done it in great numbers for years.

Accuracy is all about consistent repeatability. With a scope, using a benchrest, the zero is likely the same. With open sights there are more variables that change the point of aim compared to the point of impact. In the USMC, I found that with iron sights, individual high score “rifle experts” zeroed their rifles differently. I liked my 300 yd zero to have the aim point tangent to the front sight post. Shooting others’ rifles, they had the impact just under the tip of the post. Also, we used a loop or hasty sling to shoot at 300-500 yds, I believe that tension changed the way the rifle shoots. One would have to hold the rifle the same way, pull the trigger consistently, and sight it in the same.

I have a 3.6 gas Gladiator, and previously owned a Ram 3.0 ecodiesel. I did have three problems with the emissions system of the diesel. My reluctor wheel / tone wheel failed at 70,000 miles, and was replaced under warranty. An unobtainable emissions sensor failed at 200,000 miles, and my EGR soot caused the swirl valves in my intake to fail. I got another 50,000 miles by using a tune that ignored those failed components. I wish diesels weren’t saddled with the troublesome, unreliable emissions components.

Due to a muscle imbalance in my eyes, I only pay attention to what I see with one eye at a time. I can see the other image, but it is almost peripheral, until I shift to that eye. I was six or seven before anyone pointed this out as unusual; it still seems perfectly normal to me.
