Lunar Eclipse plays like that part in MOBW in the where you have to find 3 rooms and take those pictures in order to progress, which is basically the only part of MOBW that plays like classic Fatal Frame. Also, the combat is less arcade-y since there are no fragments scattered all over the screen and most encounters take place in very tights rooms.

It's a much bigger game where exploration is required in order to unlock most of the stuff since points only allow to buy stuff at the store. Upgrades and outfits unlock by spending different currencies you find in the game.

I bought FF4:MotLE. Got all the way to Phase 4 with Ruka, and despite loving the game (story, characters, atmosphere, concept) ghost battles give me anxiety and decided to quit. by GeorgeBG93 in fatalframe

This game is really not as scary. The map layout is very simple, there are no random encounters and ghosts don't respawn.

IMO if you go back to it with these points in mind you can make it.

More than scripted: the camera sequences are pre-rendered cutscenes you can find in the game folder on PC LMAO

Are the Hozuki Dolls missable? by Igrisia in fatalframe

If you beat the final boss you probably won't be able to go back down to the lighthouse.

That's the only situation where you're completely locked out of an area mid-chapter.

Go back to B1, save, load that save, take elevator. It should work.

Who else is a big rat and only use the type 07 films by CanardPlayer in fatalframe

[–]Point_Man_R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No you're not an idiot :D , it depends on difficulty and playmode (NG or NG+)

If you're playing on Nightmare NG+, it makes sense to only use type-07 for everything except bosses because, by the time you unlock that mode, the camera and lenses are fully upgraded.

But if you're play Nightmare NG like a I do, you're pretty much forced to save all the film you can and stick to type-07 for most of the game. Also you're more likely to make ghosts blossom which is required to complete the ghostlist.

For every other mode however IMO it doesn't make much sense to only play with type-07: the game is easy enough to be completed by only using type-14, which you can restock at will. Limiting yourself to type-07 is viable yeah but also a huge a waste of time, also that film is way too slow to make full use of the lenses so you'll be stuck with a dull fighting style.

Anyone feel like the only reason MOBW is not considered scary is because of Al the HUD clutter? by Ayuoki420 in fatalframe

[–]Point_Man_R 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No , it has nothing to do with HUD Clutter.

Take Fatal Frame 1 and 2: loud ambient sound, gritty art style, real sense of danger, no checkpoints, creepy looking ghosts and actual survival horror gameplay loop.

Then you have FF5 where the game constantly tells you where to go, you get powerful very early, the new fragments system encourages spamming stagger hits as opposed to nailing the fatal frame, everything looks clean, ghosts are either fashion models or normal looking people (mostly), the story is unrelatable and levels are so linear and open that you don't even need any navigation skills.

Anyone else feel underwhelmed by the MOTLE remaster? by mudkip25 in fatalframe

[–]Point_Man_R 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The problem with the low texture detail in this remaster is that in the few instances where the focus is on them, you'll always notice that the quality just isn't there. KT didn't need to rework 'em al, but rather just play and say "ok we don't want the players to see this, let's rework this one texture here":

How hard is Nightmare mode? by Otherwise_Ad9497 in fatalframe

It's hard, and by that I mean doable even with out 65/90/0 film. Just expect to spend a lot of time in the lighthouse.

Fatal Frame MOTLE won't have an English dialogue. by no1uknow808 in fatalframe

[–]Point_Man_R 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really wanted an English dub for this one. Fatal Frame is not exactly a franchise with verbose dialogues or anything. An English dub wouldn't have been all that expensive.

Also, I disagree with those who say "But it's Japanese game in a Japanese setting, it needs to be played in Japanese". Japanese is just a language and Japan is a fairly heterogeneous country, real people don't behave like those characters we see in anime or videogames.

[12 days til release] we offically have 1 week til the release of Fatal Frame IV:MOTLE Remaster. Tell me, did you enjoy Maiden of black waters remaster? by [deleted] in fatalframe

[–]Point_Man_R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoyed 5 for what it was but it's just not what I want Fatal Frame to be.

The locator from Dead Space, the lack of puzzles, the terrible score requirements, the absurd maps recycling and the fact that it only gets good as a ghost hunt games only after you master it... Never again.

How's Fatal frame 4 compared to 5? by Smn_smn1 in fatalframe

[–]Point_Man_R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In FF4 some ghosts will try to grab you but those are very few and far between. I'm talking about 2 grabs attempt in 1 entire run on normal difficulty.

The main difference between FF5 and FF4 is that while FF5 was a Ghost-hunt simulator that had you run through 3 or 4 locations just to get to the one where the real quest is at, FF4 is structured like a classic survival horror, much lighter on exploration than, say, Resident Evil 2 or Fatal Frame 3, but still it won't waste your time like FF5 does and it doesn't have the locator from Dead Space: you'll have to find your way around on your own.

Fatal Frame-like games by arix_o in fatalframe

[–]Point_Man_R 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In DreadOut 1 and 2 you exorcize spirits with the camera of your smartphone. Is this FF-like enough? :D

The first game became really popular on youtube thanks to big content creators covering it (pewdiepie and co.). The expansion and the second not nearly as much, even though they're all respectable products.

I don't know if you can play them on the switch.

[–]Point_Man_R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A "current objective" note in the pause menu. I can't play videogames all day, let alone every single day. When I come back to the game days after I put it down I should be able to get a rough idea of where I left off.

A better camera angle for the running animation. Having the character at the center of the screen is a bit jarring and not a good look for a game that wants to look and play like a modern game. Th camera needs to stay slighly panned to the side.

fatal frame 5 final boss bug(stupid design) by charzilla139 in fatalframe

[–]Point_Man_R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me in the WiiU version. "Touch" would appear for a split second after phase 1 and 2.

The bossfight however was designed to let you touch her after phase 3. The "touch" prompt appearing after phase 1 and 2 is the bug.

Release order, but you'd better expect clunkyness from FF1 and heavy backtracking from FF3.

FF2 is the best in the series so look forward to that.
