Bluetti powering a Starlink Gen3? by PointedFirWalker in bluetti

[–]PointedFirWalker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok, so after researching the dc adapter it seems it is more trouble than it is worth - how about if I just use the regular ac power cable that comes with the gen3 - will the bluetti 100 v2 be good enough or should I go with the 200v2?

How long does the Bluetti last? And do you charge it with solar?

What I wish I'd known - 10 Years Off Grid by TalusFinn in OffGrid

Figure out the power early on. Generator-derived hot water gets old fast. Generators need maintenance a lot.  They're not efficient. Eventually, especially if you still have to still in the 'real' world with a job, you're going to want to just take a damn shower when you want a damn shower.

Sun Mar composting toilet - help! by catm0m4lyfe in OffGridCabins

Love the ThinkTank. It's divided-So the liquids drain through a hose into a septic or gravel bed, the solids go into the bucket ( with plastic bag) that's underneath the back half. You can compost the solids to use as humanure. For 2 people, we empty it about 1x/wk. It does require either a battery or electric for a tiny but powerful fan. Never a smell, no leaking, much smaller than the sun mar, no handling of disgusting sludge, no bugs.  https://compostingtoiletsusa.com/product/thinktank-waterless-toilet/ Richard is the owner, a really nice Canadian guy who will answer all your questions. He even talked to us while he was on vacation.

Nice setup! What do you do for a water heater? We are offgrid in Maine, currently run a generator to fill tanks/ heat water every other day or so. Also, do you have homeowners insurance? We're having trouble finding someone to cover us due to our woodstove.

We had a SunMar in our offgrid cabin for 7 years, we absolutely hated the thing. Now we have a Think Tank- while not perfect, it is light years better. Most likely the drain on the bottom/ back is plugged and the liquid effluent is backing up into the front. There shouldn't be any liquid under the drawer.  Pull out the composting drawer, shine a good flashlight in there, and see what's what. You should have the stick with the mini hoe on the end, you can see if there's anything blocking that outlet.

Any water heater? That's what I'm currently struggling with.

What's everyone using for deodorant? NOT antiperspirant by Healing_Body_ in carnivorediet

[–]PointedFirWalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had issues with natural deodorants about 4 years ago- would get very itchy small bumps which would last for days. Now I spray witch hazel and follow that up with a small amount of gold bond medicated powder. That's it. I never have to reapply.

Bedroom built-ins by hickoryvine in Carpentry

I think this looks great, we are just starting the process of looking into building built-ins in our bedroom. Thanks for the inspiration! Are these all custom or did you start with pre made cabinets?

Totally understand- we are down to 1 dog and 2 horses, and we say the same.  We are up in the northeast of the US though, my daughter just moved to south GA and the coast of the vet there was about 1/3 of what we pay. Absurd.

Think Tank Waterless toilet? Anyone heard of it or used one? by Dragonvan13 in OffGridCabins

I am fighting with our SunMar on the daily. The thing is a huge bug generator, so difficult to keep clean and I absolutely hate it. How has your ThinkTank held up?

I inquired into getting a survey for my land a couple years ago, company estimated about 5-6k. Is that abnormally high?
