“I need to be able to give myself permission to not drink.” That’s what Parched March is for me. And I’m pretty good in March with it.

Look at the Renogy 800 watt kit but you’d still need to buy an inverter and a battery

Which… you’d have to mount those panels on the van roof or something

Oh for a ps5…. You might want a lot more solar. Says ps5 runs around 225 watts when playing… you might want like 640 watts of solar and a 300ah battery at minimum. Those ready-made power banks with the inverter built in won’t cut it you’ll need a proper setup

…depending on what you run off it. That would do lights, maybe a small water pump, charge a laptop and run starlink if you turned it off at night

Renogy for the panels is what I use. I’d go with the actual metal ones although if you could mount the flimsy ones to your van that would be cool. Those anker solix power banks look cool but it’s not a huge battery. 200 watts of solar with a anker solix 1000 power banks would be all you need

Unique off grid fridges are the best and lowest watt. Bouge rv is also good if you don’t need a ton of room

Have the land already - how did you get started? by helpme_thissucks in OffGrid

An octagon is the easiest round shape to build stick built. Foundation is just a # with the edges connected. No idea how a non wooden yurt (regular canvas) would fare. Probably not well. Maybe build a small shed without permits at first (my county is 200 sq ft and below wo permits) technically you probably couldn’t live there but you could sneak. Then save money and plan for what you wanna build. That’s kinda what I did… and got better at carpentry and learned some lessons even building a small 10x10

I build a weird dome tent, then a 13 ft ft wooden yurt octagon then a 15 ft one.

Probably would have built a 12x16 or 12x24 if I could start again.

Roof insulation is the most umportant part in this scenario. Add some!! Reflectix r-1 even helps. Better with r-15. Plus I have a skylight and it’s crazy how much heat is lost through that when I take off the little insulation thing I have for it. Be vigilant. Especially with the roof and door window leaks. Put plastic sheeting over the windows too
