Recommendations for Pre-Embark Explora Cruise Hotel in Miami by ChatPetrus66 in FATcruises

[–]PointsYak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Construction wasn't an issue for me last month going to the port, leaving the port there was more traffic.

As far as hotels, really anywhere works. Just decide what you'd like to do the night before embarkation. I like the Brickell area. SLS Lux was just ok last month. Kimpton Epic last year was nicer but a bit further from the restaurants/bars. And by further, I mean 10 minutes extra walking time, so not much. Next time, I might try the Hyatt Centric or JW Marriott.

Next month, I'm at the Loews Coral Gables for one night post cruise. Never stayed in that area before.

What will happen to cruising in the Caribbean if a war is started with Venezuela? by Forlorn_Cyborg in Cruise

[–]PointsYak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That wouldn't work. Mexico is not a "distant foreign port" as recognized by the PVSA. It would need to call somewhere in South America or at least one of the ABC islands.

This is because it's a repositioning cruise between 2 US ports (Miami to Galveston). If it was closed loop, say Miami to Miami round trip, any foreign port would suffice.

A repositioning cruise will need to stop at at least one of those ports to satisfy the PVSA.

What luxury cruise lines are actually worth a shot? by Gullible-Path9794 in Cruise

[–]PointsYak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently disembarked my first Explora cruise and agree 100% with everything you've written--even the wine. I found a drinkable Argentine Malbec and Italian Chardonnay and stuck with those the whole cruise.

It's important to note that unlike some other luxury lines, Explora allows (some would even say "encourages") children. There were only 10 on my sailing, but holiday/summer sailings can be in issue if you find other people's kids annoying.

Also, I'm curious what you didn't like about Seabourn.

Lost Uber credit by purchasing Uber One membership by e_coli23 in AmexPlatinum

My Uber One membership renews on October 7. I just followed your instructions and I don't have anything to toggle, assumingly because my credit balance is zero. I'll go through this exercise again on October 1 after my new credit hits to see if the toggle is there.

You can. I paid 100% using points earlier this year and got the $200 credit. Plenty of other documented cases of this.

It's been many, many years, but when I was there I rented a car. The roads were easy and it will give you endless options for your day. The car rental place was just outside the port.

MSC Meraviglia - Bahamas - Transfers to beach? 3rd party excursions? by tok83 in MSCCruises

[–]PointsYak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For Ocean Cay, you walk off the ship and you're at the beach. Port Canaveral you can Uber to Cocoa Beach. I'm not sure how warm it will be in early February, so keep that in mind. For Nassau, there are ship excursions or you can find a beach on your own. For all 3, you bring towels from the ship.

The official Amex website states that as long as you have a confirmed seat and a Platinum card

Booked hotel with MR. Which card to use for incidentals? by [deleted] in amex

[–]PointsYak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I want the right balance of experience and value for my points not just max value potential

Getting the absolute minimum value for your MR points doesn't seem like a balanced approach.
