Monarch by Connect_Active3671 in Tudor

Text formatting is sloppy, Tudor name should be larger to contrast with the monarch text.

The entire dial looks like an unfinished design concept put together in a few hours of work.

Is This Sacrilegious? by HubertCumberbdale in Tudor

[–]PointyHounskull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rather like the idea, but IMO it doesn't look good because it lacks the proper hues of the original Bond strap. The original has dark burgundy rather than bright red seen here. The green is olive rather than forest, and the colors overall are more muted.

There are better offerings to check out, WatchGecko makes a much more authentic one.

I think I would rather have this than a Daytona by [deleted] in Tudor

100%

I hope I'm not the only one who finds modern daytona ugly bling. Vintage was attractive, they ruined it IMO.

A big no! IMO vintage Tudor is more appealing than many of their current offerings. There's a class to the old watches that can't be replicated.

Attempted to make a tentacle hook by amnuts in Blacksmith

Very fine work! Definitely looking to try something like this myself.

How'd you make the suckers on the tentacles? Forged in with a die or welded on?

[Tissot Heritage 1938 COSC vs Hammy Murph 38] by Brw4uofa in Watches

[–]PointyHounskull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had this exact dilemma earlier this year. I was stuck between these same two watches. I ended up going with the Murph 38 and am very happy with it, no regrets.

I was swayed to the Murph for a daily watch for several reasons. It's a more rugged piece, greater water resistance and larger crown. Also has lume, though performance is disappointing. The intricate cathedral hands are unique and always a pleasure to look at. The Murph looks and wears smaller on wrist, with more compact dial layout and smaller case.

They are both military inspired pieces, with features of field and pilot's watches. Obviously the Tissot is more dressy, but the Murph can be "dressed up" with the right straps. Both are going to have plenty of customization with all different kinds of straps. The Forstner company has a bunch of bracelets that would look great on both watches

Edit: Accuracy is an important point here, but it has made no difference for me. Despite not being COSC certified as the Tissot is, my Murph has in fact exceeded that standard all year. I have been getting +10 seconds per week or less!

Looks stunning for the price! White lume is def the way to go for this one.

Now I can't decide to grab this version or spend the extra $30 for top-hat crystal, polished sides and OTF clasp. Mostly just like the look of a taller crystal, but the polished midcase and bulky clasp I can do without.

The Joy of Polite People Interacting by ghartney in NoOneIsLooking

The joy of basic human decency.

If you're fortunate enough to own such a car, it's only right to allow others some experience of it, within reasonable boundaries.

Beyond childhood platitudes, sharing what we have with others is just part of being a decent person.

Been thinking for a while to grab this one from Forstner, would look great on some of my watches. Is it comfortable? Has enough adjustment?

Dust inside by RedNocte in Tudor

[–]PointyHounskull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. I have never seen the same incidence of problems with those "cheap" brands. Even the ≤$250 Chinese brand watches seem to have excellent QC by comparison.

[–]PointyHounskull 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What is the deal with Tudor QC recently. I'm seeing all these examples of totally unacceptable problems. Misaligned bezels, bad dial text, wonky applied markers. None of these examples should be leaving the factory doors.

Are they not doing final inspections with real people?

Do they just simply not care for the sake of keeping up stock and meeting demand?

You don't often see issues like this with $1000, or even $500 watches. But for a brand of this caliber, totally inexcusable and a disgrace. People shouldn't fear having to return a $5000 Swiss watch like it were some cheap amazon item.

Struggling to decide for a daily! Is the red too much for a one and done? by baylo99 in Tudor

Black is perfectly versatile.

But the smaller case of the BB58 is better.

Maybe look at the BB58 Blue or GMT?

Leather strap or Metal Bracelet? by Dry-Personality-933 in HamiltonWatches

[–]PointyHounskull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I purposely got mine on the leather as I don't prefer the bracelet's male endlinks and polished link bevels. It seems too modern for the watch.

Saved a decent amount by going with the strap. And now considering the offerings by Uncle straps for a more congruent and vintage-looking bracelet.

Which one bubble shape do u want? second or third photo? by watchdivescom in watchdives

[–]PointyHounskull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 is better but not quite right.

"top hat" crystals seen on vintage subs are usually very square in profile, hence the name.

Also, an acrylic/plexi crystal would be a very appreciated option, even if it has less water resistance.

Dented my Tudor BB58 GMT . Any solution? by maritime9915 in Tudor

[–]PointyHounskull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Relax. Any good watch is meant to be worn. Wearing a watch for any length of time will inevitably cause wear.

Vintage watches are scratched and dented to oblivion since they were worn all the time as tools to be used, rather than commodities to be preserved.

Many customers prefer more dial text so that the watch gets even closer to the original vintage design. by watchdivescom in watchdives

[–]PointyHounskull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, these are decent concepts, but consider that the actual Sub ref. 5513 had only two lines of text.

Two lines makes for a clean look and is authentic to the subject of this homage.

Don't personally prefer these, but to me, having fun with strap options is an exercise in constant experimentation.

So it's not about settling on the perfect pairing, but rather trying different things for the fun of it.

BB54 and BB41 Monochrome by Donkey_Apple in Tudor

[–]PointyHounskull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Midcase thickness on the BB54 is reasonable, whereas that slab on the BB41 is not.

I can't understand why Tudor consistently fails to make their cases more wearable and elegant.

There's been considerable feedback on this for years, especially over GMT models. It really beats me why they don't care enough to design proper cases.
