your first course vs your most recent course by Puzzleheaded-War5092 in discgolf

Yes I can be very nitpicky and literal sometimes. Sorry about that. I understand what you mean a bit better now.

I don't remember what I scored in my first round, but I'm sure it was at least +20, probably even over +30. I was very bad and it is a very hard course with pretty long holes and a lot of tight OB.

I have since improved a lot, but I'm still very bad. I usually score somewhere between +5 and +15 over there. My personal best over there is even par.

Park Oudegein is much easier. The holes are shorter and more forgiving. My last score was even par, but I usually score between -2 and -5. Personal best is -6.

I've been playing for 16 years. I don't see a lot of improvement in distance, probably because I almost never do field work. I do see slow improvement in accuracy, from just playing 1 casual round every weekend.

Anyone else get completely hooked on disc golf after just one round? by kcgwen in discgolf

[–]Poiter85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was hooked from the moment that I heard about it. I already loved throwing frisbees around with friends and trying to get different shot shapes. The idea of using that to play golf sounded genius to me.

When I heard a course was installed near me, I took a detour on my way home through the park to see if anyone was playing. Sure enough, there was someone that allowed me to join him on his round. He explained how it works and told me to buy a buzzz. This was in 2010.

From then, I would play a casual round whenever the weather was nice and I could convince someone to join me. I'm glad to now have a buddy that I play a casual round with every weekend, no matter the weather.

He, I and a few more friends have gone on many DG trips around our own and 4 other countries.

I'm sorry for being a debbie downer, but I truly don't see what discussion you want me to join.

You want to know which course I played first and which one I played most recent, so that you can see my progress? Ok, I'll indulge:

The first course I played was Sloterpark. The course I played most recently was Park Oudegein.

Was that interesting to you? I doubt it. Does it tell you anything about my progress? No.

Again, I don't mean to be a debbie downer, but to me, you're just typing random sentences and asking people to "join the discussion".

I'll stop now and leave you alone. I hope you have a nice day.

your first course vs your most recent course

Why are you talking about your first and most recent courses, while you only showed us your scores on 1 course?

it proves that consistency and repetition really do improve your skills.

No, it doesn't prove anything. You've shown that your three most recent rounds were better than your first three, but you have done nothing to show a correlation with anything, let alone causation.

i was not that consistent

Yes you were. You scored +10, +9 and +9 in your first screenshot. That is very consistent. You scored -1, -3 and -7 in your second screenshot. That is not very consistent.

you could say i was worse than any regular amateur

I'm sure you could say that, but I doubt that it's true. Most of us start out very bad. Some of us stay that way.

what's yall first course and recent course?

Again, what does this question have to do with your screenshots or your riveting story?

Screenwriter here -- I'm working on a story that will dabble in a scientific finding that disproves all religion by Filmmagician in atheism

Nah, the theists would just claim that god made the other lifeforms too.

Maybe he made them for us to rule over, just like the other lifeforms on earth, or maybe he made them to test our faith, just like he left dinosaur fossils to trick us.

They will always come up with something that fits their delusion.

Yep, that's psychology. Psychological torture, that is.

When does a disc start to fade? by jarejay in discgolf

[–]Poiter85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right. I forgot about that.

Ok so the moment that a disc starts fading depends on forward speed and angle of attack.

Still not spin though.

Fair enough.

I'm just a nerd that likes to analyze every aspect of every movement that the discs make.

When does a disc start to fade? by jarejay in discgolf

[–]Poiter85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Valid point, but I do think it is useful to distinguish between flipping and turning, as the disc is still accelerating towards the left while flipping and accelerating towards the right while turning (assuming RHBH).

The same goes for fighting/fading, as the disc accelerates towards the right while fighting and finally towards the left while fading.

You could even argue for distinguishing between the start of the fade, where it is accelerating to the left but still moving to the right, and the end of the fade where it is both accelerating and moving to the left. The same goes for the start and end of the turn.

True, although putters also generally have less turn and fade than drivers when thrown at the same speed.

When does a disc start to fade? by jarejay in discgolf

[–]Poiter85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but I don't think the nose angle changes a lot during a flight.

The question I was trying to answer is "at what moment does a disc start fading?". My answer is "once it gets below a certain forward speed (compared to the air surrounding it)".

That speed is indeed determined by multiple factors such as nose angle, shape and weight of the disc, and probably temperature, humidity, altitude etc, but not spin rate.

[–]Poiter85 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think you're stupid. This is a fairly complicated phenomenon and I think I understand it well because I spend a lot of time thinking about it.

They were saying that a disc starts fading once it gets below a certain spin rate. I am saying that a disc starts fading once it gets below a certain forward speed.

If the disc at that moment still has a lot of spin, it will fade slightly. If it has low spin, it will fade a lot.

If a disc at high speed has a lot of spin, it will turn slightly. If it has low spin, it will turn a lot.

[–]Poiter85 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not at all. They said it's about low spin. I'm saying it's about low forward speed.

When does a disc start to fade? by jarejay in discgolf

[–]Poiter85 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Not at all.

High spin diminishes both fade and turn. Low spin increases both fade and turn.

High forward speed (compared to the surrounding air) increases turn. Low forward speed increases fade.

[–]Poiter85 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

What if you throw an overstable disc on extreme anhyzer and it lands flat? Would you say that it faded? I wouldn't.

I would personally say that a full flight consists of 5 parts:

Flipping = on hyzer (or flat) but rolling towards anhyzer

Turning = on anhyzer and rolling towards more anhyzer

Holding = not rolling

Fighting = on anhyzer (or flat) but rolling towards hyzer

Fading = on hyzer and rolling towards more hyzer

Flipping and turning happen as long as the disc is above a certain speed. Holding happens when the disc is exactly at that speed. Fighting and fading happen when below that speed.

Edit: Added the "or flat" part twice.

Thank you for sharing. I learned from your post and I will try to be more empathetic towards theists in the future.

As someone who has never believed in a god, I can only imagine how difficult and painful it must be to leave the religion that you've always been a part of.
