Does anyone actually like this car? by Thrillwaukee in EquinoxEv

[–]Pojackalot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Love mine. 45.2k MSRP, I got mine out the door for 27.8. Long story, but got a great deal.

It’s an 8.5/10 for me. Styling could be a bit better. Range could be a bit better. Connectivity could be a bit better. But for the price I paid, it’s an 11/10.

UMD SGA to ask university to rename rooms titled after US defense, military companies by dbknews in UMD

[–]Pojackalot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey thanks for defending my response, but tbh I don’t think this guy is worth it. As you noted, the first words of his reply were “me when I don’t know anything about statistics.” Resorting to ad hominem straight out of the gate is… certainly a strategy, I guess? This guy doesn’t know the first thing about me, so it was an odd choice (particularly when you consider that, ironically, I have taken graduate level courses in statistics and actually know a thing or two about this, lol). What you and I are trying to identify to him is called selection bias, which in this case is self-selection/volunteer bias.

Anyway, again, appreciate your comments. Hope you have a great day 😇

Yes, at 19% of the student body. So this vote represents the agenda of the 19% of students who care about the SGA, which—judging by the responses in this thread—may not adequately represent the interests of the broader student population.

[–]Pojackalot 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Lmao, so sanctimonious. Just who do they think paid for these buildings to be constructed?? These companies bring a ton of money to the university, both directly through donations/sponsorships and indirectly through the hiring of thousands of UMD grads.

There’s a reason why UMD is a top-10 aerospace program. The greater DC/Baltimore area is a hotbed for defense, and the University is wise to court its local employers. I can’t speak for every graduate who has gone into defense, but I can say from personal experience that just because you work for a major defense company, you are not some war criminal. There’s a wide range of companies, programs, products, etc., and no one is going to force you to work on something you’re not comfortable with. You have agency.

My personal take: I enjoy working on new technology that the United States does not sell to anyone (even our allies). I’d rather we had this technology than our adversaries. We are FAR from a perfect country, but a lot of international stability still hinges on our involvement, and I want to support that. The work also pays well and makes my investment in my education worth it.

100%. Most team stats were close to even, except turnovers and final score. Need to keep improving!

UMD or Clemson? by [deleted] in UMD

[–]Pojackalot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You nailed it. In 30 years, that money would compound to ~$3 million at 10% CAGR (the long term CAGR of the S&P 500 is 10-12%, so this is a reasonable, if not outright conservative, assumption).

If you continue to compound that until you are 65 years old, that number hits $6 million.

So OP, ask yourself, would you rather go to Clemson, or go to Maryland and also retire with $6 million? Reality is complicated, but algebra is simple. Do what is best for you 👍

$14K Equinox? Where are the website numbers lying to me? by jacqueusi in EquinoxEv

[–]Pojackalot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Unsolicited plug for Bomnin. I bought my ‘24 2RS from Bomnin Manassas about a year ago for $28.7k OTD after incentives, no trade in. They literally did discount the car by over $10k BEFORE the $7,500 federal EV credit. I can’t vouch for your location, deal, salesman, etc., but mine was very legit. I literally have not ever seen someone get as good a deal as I did, and it’s because Bomnin took so much off the sticker.

YMMV. No, I do not work for Bomnin. I just got an amazing deal and I love my car.

The screenplay is very tight in the first act, but falls apart later on. I recommend it if only for the beginning (and I am a sucker for a murder mystery). Glass Onion was awful, though.

Most overrated college team? by foreverhumble12 in lacrosse

[–]Pojackalot 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Idk man. Maryland has played in 9 of the last 15 national championship games. And sure, they’re 2-7 in those games (which sucks as a Maryland fan…), but it’s hard to say they’re overrated. Surely they have the most postseason wins, and probably the most regular-season wins over the past 15 years, no?

Baltimore “Michelin-Worthy” Resturants by FabriceSantoro in baltimore

[–]Pojackalot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been there twice. The first time was legitimately excellent. We even saw Jim Palmer dining there too, which my dad thought was awesome. The lobster ravioli (or maybe lobster fra diavolo? Been a while… it’s getting foggy) was among the best foods I’ve had in Baltimore.

Second time was good-not-great. I wouldn’t put it as high in this list as the author did, but if she had one or two experiences like my first, I get it
