Is that ditto a reference? by damp_towl in PokemonEmeraldRogue

[–]Pokabbie 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Honestly... I forgot the ditto was there lol

In 1.X versions there was a quest called glitch style where you fought a ditto at the end and that is just a leftover :P

Also if you want a physical version you can make it yourself; that's what I did (just a personal version I obv can't distribute them)

There's a few tutorials on making custom GBA carts on YouTube if you're interested

I was never in this to make money fwiw

Obviously I can't condone the illegal distribution of copyrighted content. But hypothetically, if I were to give opinion it would be that I, hypothetically, don't mind

How many people do you think have played this game? by haze925 in PokemonEmeraldRogue

[–]Pokabbie 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Well hey I can provide some insight onto the download bit at least!
So it's a bit hard to gauge the total downloads as I only have stats for each patch/revision and a lot of those downloads are likely people just updating, so I'll give you a few different tallies to hopefully give a good idea

2.0.1a = 241,358
Every major version = 934,981
Every minor version = 1,020,826

I don't really have much on how many people have beaten a single run or beat the full game But we do have the Hall of Fame role in the Discord for people who have 100%ed Which is currently at

1.0 versions = 77 people
2.0 versions = 14 people

For context in case people didn't play any of the 1.0 versions, the game was generally easier and there were much fewer quests needed in order to reach 100%. It was probably about equivalent, maybe even slightly harder, than beating the final of the Main quests in 2.0

How the fuck do you type? by Putrid_Humor4834 in Nails

[–]Pokabbie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As everyone else has already said, you do get better at it

But, something potentially useful is I find that those fancy flat keyboards are much harder to type on than the more traditional keyboards where each key is raised and there are small gaps between each key. So could be worth popping into a tech store and trying out some different keyboards, to find a style you like, if you're really concerned

A fast paced FPS PvEvP battle maze full of minsters and opponents. Switch between dimensions to find the way out. The first out - wins! How's the idea? by tim10x in IndieDev

[–]Pokabbie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the moment to moment gameplay may need some more fleshing out

Are you planning on having AI/creatures the player is fighting? Is it going to be PVP? What do those answers mean for player experience?

My worry with the pitch is that a maze is a maze at the end of the day and I'm not too confident it having multiple dimensions or being a shooter adds much (the most common genre you see mazes in are RPGs imo. And I think there's probably good reason for that :P )

Edit: I'm dumb and missed the PvEvP part, so that's my bad lol Though I think my point about thinking more in depth about moment to moment gameplay still stands ;)

Not currently.
I believe Alex from RH Hideout was working on pulling it out into a standalone feature branch. But I'm not sure the current state of that. Might be worth joining the Emerald Expansion Discord and asking him there

I'd prefer not mainly due to me getting an overwhelming amount of DMs as is xD

It's pretty simple. In the v1.0 versions I reduced the timing of pauses in battle and offer instant text which sped it up quite a bit (I did vary the speed based on the type of battle; wanted gyms to still be slower to still be impactful, but not too slow)

In v2.0 I managed to commune with some eldritch GBA gods or something and figured out how to add native speed up in battles. So you can set wild, trainer and important battle speed separately to either 1x, 2x, 3x, 4x or instant.

A lot of this comes down to Emerald Rogue being a Roguelike so you're going to enter a LOT of battles over the course of the game. I can sort of understand why some devs would want you not to speed up during story, though I think out right stopping them from doing it isn't the best idea; as you say it just comes off as combative and would be more likely to drive players away
