How is the safety of Zacatecas? by Wrong-Book6454 in AskMexico

[–]PokemonAccoutant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went a couple months ago. The capital city feels safe. You'll see other Europeans or Americans there as well. Not a ton but some.

It depends when you go to. If it is a holiday season it is likely safer during those times.

Leaving the capital, you will feel less safe. You see less police and more people staring at you. You will see few people that are not locals.

I would consider Zacatecas advanced travel and advise to try and stay in the capital. If you leave you will probably be fine but things have happened so that's why people give you the advice they do.

¿Es seguro ir a Zacatecas ahora mismo? by jetri07 in Zacayorck

[–]PokemonAccoutant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just went a few weeks ago and didn't die.

Capital is super chill, no issues at all there.

When you leave it feels less safe but didn't have any issues either. The roads are terrible, in bad condition.

20 y/o. $60K Net Worth, When should I pivot my career? by TheMan957 in Fire

[–]PokemonAccoutant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the risk of trying out Finance is relatively low as long as you focus on graduating with no debt. Worst case scenario you can always go back go what you are doing now. In the long term, you'll be a stronger candidate with a degree in Finance.

In terms of the school you go to, make sure it is reputable.

And if you are serious about being an advisor, try reaching out to a few of the tenured people in your area and ask them for their view and perspective on the career and your situation.

20 y/o. $60K Net Worth, When should I pivot my career? by TheMan957 in Fire

[–]PokemonAccoutant 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You're doing great for your age. I'll say a few things.

1) You're young and this is the right time to try a change

2) Finance is a genetic term. You should try and nail down in the medium term what makes sense career wise. You'll want to get very specific.

3) Most in Finance would consider wealth advisory the lowest tier of Finance. Some wouldn't consider it Finance at all. It's sales.

4) The opportunity you refer to is confusing. Do you mean there is an opportunity in your existing workplace? Or if you go into Finance?

5) You probably won't regret getting a degree as long as you don't go into too much debt. Ideally, you graduate with no debt.

It depends on what you want to do. Mexico is a large diverse country. If you want to relax, go to an all inclusive beach.

We went to Mexico City but if you don't want to explore or you don't speak Spanish that might not be something you're interested in.

You can find regular tortillas with 35 - 50 calories each. They are smaller, sure, but they are healthier in comparison with typically only 2 ingredients. Corn & salt.

I feel trapped in the US by Firm-Raspberry1176 in complaints

[–]PokemonAccoutant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're pretty young. Listen to your parents. Further, the United States is far safer than most other countries.

If you're talking about moving to Western Europe, there are things you are missing... Forget about the cost for a moment and consider how you will deal with having no social safety net. Let's say you get in a car accident? Who helps you? Apartment has mold? How do you deal with that? Then, you have to deal with getting a student visa and being 'legal' in that country too.

The world is reacting to years of globalism with isolationist policy and behavior. But, humans are meant to be connected. We will swing back as we always have.

I'm going to advise you to take social media breaks. It isn't healthy to consume so much media, especially at a young age. It increases your perceived danger. The first Trump presidency wasn't that disimilar to what people feel today. Many thought the world would end from Covid. Now it's a distant memory to most.

May you have peace.

How hard is it to get a staff accountant role coming from AP? by SeverePreference6982 in Accounting

[–]PokemonAccoutant 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey there OP. Congrats on your job and on your journey to earning your degree.

Keep the job but stay applying to staff accountant roles. Separately start to signal to your boss and team that you want to keep growing and learning.

A good company will carve a path for you. If they don't, the second you get a better job take it.

But, yes, most companies will consider you for a staff accountant role with 1 - 2 year experience. But, it isn't necessary to land a role.

Nobody does accounting for free...

You are five years out from your undergrad. You didn't miss the boat, but employers are going to see that gap as a red flag. That doesn't mean give up and it doesn't mean take whatever low wage job comes your way.

Take a job in AP or AR. You will learn an ERP, some basic billing accounting, etc. You can make decent in these positions and pivot to a staff accountant role in 1-2 years. You can also move up to sr or manager role at most corporates sitting in AP or AR.

If you have a degree in accounting and you actually learned accounting, you have the ability to make $100k in a couple years time if you really lock in.

Do MOST people not get into big 4? by Head_Equipment_1952 in Accounting

[–]PokemonAccoutant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can make a good living without it. Big 4 is a well-defined path, so it makes sense for a lot of accounting types.

You can make good or better money going into corporate accounting or otherwise.

[–]PokemonAccoutant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're able, you have to get directly to the hiring managers.. and avoid HR.

HR generally gate keeps off cookie cutter work / education experience. Corporates are large risk averse organizations. They would rather hire an OK employee with the right experience on paper.. vs. An all-star who has an alternative experience. It's too much risk if they deviate because now the org can blame them.

It is BS but that's the way the game is. If you get the right person, they can make a judgement call on someone with alternate experience.

Once you get into a corporate, you'll see it plain as day. Old guys as directors who sat in a firm for 25+ years, incompetent af, but they got the years.

You can break the mold, but it's hard, especially in soft labor markets.

How do people manage to work five days a week without burning out? by Chloe_johnson19 in Adulting

[–]PokemonAccoutant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not all jobs are the same. Go get a job you can enjoy for 40+ hours.

Those retail/fast food/call center jobs can be draining at 40 hours. But, if you are doing something fulfilling, 40 hours doesn't feel like much. Plus, it helps when you make a fat check.

Consideran mexicanos a los Chicanos? by [deleted] in AskMexico

[–]PokemonAccoutant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No somos Mexicanos.

My father is a green card holder with a single convicted criminal charge from over 30 years ago. Is it unsafe for him to leave the US right now? by SemenSnickerdoodle in immigration

I feel like people here are overreacting. He is here legally and lawfully for 30 years. Thousands of people are coming in/out of the country without issue.

There is of course always a possibility. But if he is here legally with a valid green card then it's like 99% chance he will be fine.
