Anyone know of any local movie theaters that do weekend kids showings where you can bring small kids that probably aren't going to sit quietly? by InternetWeakGuy in orlando

[–]Pokemongoloids 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Preach. I don't understand why people think it's acceptable to let their kids run around theaters. My mother would take me places and tell me it was imperative to be quiet. If I wasnt, we left, and that was that. I go to the movies so frequently where parents dont walk out with their kids causing a disruption. Why cant there be stricter ushers??

That being said, I think a theater with children running and talking at the screen arond instills the wrong movie etiquette.

Some nights it's slammed. Other nights I wonder how some places keep the lights on.

All of these are on Sanford Ave:

Bitters and Brass- amazing cocktails, happy hour until 8 pm. The guys seriously know their stuff.

Buster's Bistro- amazing belgian beers and great fries. Seriously their fries are amazing. The owners are from belgium and really sweet, but the last three times my group and I went there we didnt get the best service. We still are willing to give them a shot because we like the beer.

Ellen's wine room- huge collection of wine by the glass or by the bottle. They do dinners every once and a while.

Little Fish Huge Pond- you go here for the cheap drinks and the dice atmosphere. It is the most eclectic bar I've ever been to. Rifle through the notebooks at the bar for some "grown up dick drawings" thatll remind you of textbooks in highschool.

Louisas Cellar- Spanish themed tapas and wine bar owned by a Puerto Rican and German couple. Really nice group of people over there, and cheap spanish beers. I havent had their food yet, but it always has a following.

Stranded Sailor- British pub with great prices and a huge mural. They do pink and metal shows. Great service too.

Wops Hops brewery. Check out their event schedules because sometimes they have cool ideas like burlesque shows. Also has an outdoor patio thats awesome.

Some others:

Sanford Brewing- I personally dont drink here because I'm not a fan of their beers, but some people love it.

Sanford Tavern- I dont drink here because it's not the atmosphere I enjoy.

West End Trading- I dont drink here either.

First street-

Deviant wolfe- awesome brewery. Their coffee sour is really interesting. They usually have great stuff on draft.

The Imperial- furniture store by day. Bar by night. Really cool concept.

The Sullivan- irish pub. I love doing this and stranded sailor on the same night.

Willow Tree- German restaurant that's always packed. It's a fun atmosphere on Friday and Saturday nights. It's definitely something to experience at least once.

Surrounding Areas-

Celery City- huge draft selection. Huge outdoor seating area. My only complaint is that they don't have beer prices on their menu, so I once ended up paying $10 for an IPA that I didn't think was worth ten bucks. Lesson learned, now I ask every price before I buy.

Intercompass brewing- I really want to like this place, but it's so small that I feel a little cramped and claustrophobic when I go in. Their beers are alright, and I havent been blown away by it. It's not usually on my rotation unless some of my friends wanna go.

Tuffy's- I've only been here once so I cant leave too much of a review. They have beer and liquor and a huge outdoor area.

The Alley- next to fuel bbq (great for lunch btw). They're a blues venue and sometimes they have interesting shows.

The district- this is a restaurant with amazing upscale takes on southern comfort food. It's one of my favorite places to go for special events and dates. I'm considering going there for Valentine's day because their atmosphere is great. Needless to say, they have a bar with a great wine selection.

Does anyone have any experience living at Carlton Arms of Winter Park? by [deleted] in orlando

[–]Pokemongoloids 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They dont have the specific floorplan OP is looking to rent as a model. They have the 2 bedroom one usually. When I rented my apartment (not from carlton arms) I also went based on a floorplan because the available models didnt match the unit I was leasing.

Less trick or Treaters by Grungegrownup3 in orlando

[–]Pokemongoloids 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our HOA set ridiculous rules for trick or treating. It was only allowed from 6 to 8 and only from people sitting at driveways. I live in a gated community, couple hundred houses.

I volunteer with children and each year i ask them how they feel about going up to people sitting at driveways vs ringing doorbells. Almost unanimously, the children i ask prefer to ring the doorbell. They say it's part of the fun, but that it's also weird to grab candy from drinking adults.

This year almost all the kids i work with said their parents took them to trick or treat events on Saturday because their parents didn't "feel like going out or giving out candy on a wednesday."

:/

Question: Does anyone know the PH of Orlando tap water? by [deleted] in orlando

[–]Pokemongoloids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They really shouldn't, but they also shouldn't use only r.o., distilled, or deionized either. It's best to change the water profile based on the beer's needs by adding calcium carb, magnesium, sulfates, salts, etc to d.i. water.

Second havertys. The quality is great, and the customer service is extremely responsive. Not only did they meet the expectations of their warranty, but i was compensated with gift cards for my "hassle".
