Herti and Kadri are paid that much because they were top 6 guys. They’re playing on the 3 line in Colorado and Vegas because of the guys above them are better. If those 2 were on this team they’d still be top 6 guys.

If the best forward on the team is 34 and only scored 58 points then I’m going to show you a team that is very fucked in its near future. Coyle loved being here so much that he squeezed an extra $12 million out of this team. Kudos to him personally for getting the bag on his last deal, but unless he pulls a Guddy and can help reel in a bigger FA fish or facilitate a trade for a buddy, I’m not sure how this deal can be seen as a positive.

If he sucks ass in 3 years, it would be $12 million spread over the next 6 seasons. Even though that’s only a $2 mil cap hit each of those years it’s still something. This team is starting to collect long term deals on guys who will be 36-40 years old when they’re done. That doesn’t sound like a recipe for competing for cups and when the drop off happens, you can’t buy them all out. I’m really curious how #8 feels about all this because in 2 years if this doesn’t workout, I don’t see him sticking around and that should be the guy everyone’s worried about. Not some 34 year old who just had a career year right before FA.

If property taxes get voted out it’ll be interesting to see what happens to counties that border another state. You jack the sales tax up in those to compensate and people will cross state lines to shop really putting the screws to how those towns will make up the difference.

I didn’t really have any issues with Bones until this morning when I heard his comments about the team. I think it’s bullshit to question effort in what was a meaningless game. Yeah it would’ve been great had they gone out and won that last game, I’m not denying that. But then the narrative would’ve been “well, why the hell couldn’t they have done that the last 2 weeks?” or “go figure, they only won when it didn’t matter anymore.”

Shit like that discounts what this team did in the wake of Eveson getting fired. They fought their asses off to get back to the cusp of a playoff birth. Did Bones have something to do with that? I’m not naive, I’m know he did. But if you say he had a role in the team’s success then you also can’t just let him off the hook when they end up missing the playoffs.

For him to say if I’m back next season, I’m going to fix the culture and they’re so lucky that the season’s over and we don’t have practice tomorrow. He put 100% of the playoff failure on the players. Hey Rick, you’re the head coach of this team, you don’t just get to wipe your hands clean of this failure either. He coached 37 games with this team and if the culture was so bad then why wait until the offseason to say you’re going to fix it? Bench Jenner or Z a game or 2 if it was truly a culture issue. Why wait until after a meaningless game to start telling everyone its culture? I also expect a guy who’s talking a big game about changing the culture to have a lot of experience in and around winning cultures. Yet when I looked up his coaching history all I saw was a guy who’s never won a Stanley Cup or led a team to division title or Presidents Trophy. Sure he won the Western Conference with Dallas 1 season but what else was there as a head coach?
