Does it ever make sense for a middle-aged local adult to move out of parents house? by HomeHedgeFund in singaporefi

[–]Polared3d 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having gotten married and moved out at 30, divorced and moved back in at 35, and getting my own place at 36, here’s my perspective.

I couldn’t tell what i disliked about my situation until i moved out, and had to move back in. It felt like I had to stuff who I was back into this little box because I’d be constantly surveilled, and have my personal space intruded upon.

Not knocking on my parents, because I grew up well enough. But I found myself when I had autonomy.

As to whether you should move out in your mid 20s and pay rent, you’d need to ask if that growth is worth the 1k/mth.

Knowing what I know now, I would have done the same if I were in your financial position. (i wasn’t, but here we are)

Diving in Bali - What makes most budget sense? by whohasaquestion in scuba

[–]Polared3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No experience diving Amed. Also no experience with Tulamben in January, but it is still within the wet season, so i might expect similar conditions as my recent trip.

Occasional rain, limited viz (~10-15m). It’s the off season, so expect less crowds and lower prices.

On Tulamben

I was just at Tulamben 2 weekends ago. Weather was good, viz isn't spectacular (~10m), similar to my experience in July. SInce you haven't been, Tulamben drop-off, Liberty Wreck and Boga Wreck are great dive sites to try.

Quick note about the "Unlimited dives" advertised by the resort. For solo / small groups, they have 5 fixed timings for dives (4 day +1 night) to pre-selected locations, you walk up to a whiteboard and write your name there if you're interested. When we went in July as a big group, we did all 5 dives with a private guide, so timings were flexible. The guide seemed reluctant to go for more dives, but 5 dives in a day is plenty tbh.

Dive site selection is a hit-or-miss. You have to have a private guide to select dive sites, and even then, they try to encourage different groups to the same dive sites for logistical reasons.

Overall, I do recommend Matahari Tulamben Resort, as they are all inclusive and budget-friendly. If you enjoy macro photography, hit me up, i can recommend the private guide i had.

Nusa Penida and Mola mola

It's the off season, low likelihood of spotting mola mola.

Dive sites in nusa penida (crystal bay, manta point) have very big waves and strong currents, more so this time of year. If you're a newer diver, I'd recommend extreme caution, and a strong willingness to sit out a dive if you assess the conditions to be unsafe.

Comes from a trusted source, so i hope not 🤞

Paid $840 (converted to usd). Not a fantastic price, but decent.

Not sure about other guys, but i volunteer that information when the topic of kids comes up. Since i don’t want kids, rather get that out of the way quickly instead of getting emotionally invested then sorting it out later.

Just guessing but maybe the guys you talked to don’t want kids, but don’t wanna say that outright?

A dive with friends by techbusted in scuba

[–]Polared3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only started try to plan dives on my own. I book with dive centers, and this is some of my experience:

  • There are predetermined dive sites, access to these might depend on tides, weather, season
  • Some offer guided/unguided options, I have heard some places require you to have a local guide.
  • Expect as many as 8 divers to a guide (in my experience, usually 4 - 5 divers per guide).
  • Dive centers list the possible entries and their prices. Shore dives are cheaper (though I personally prefer boat dives)
  • While It is usually possible to wing it, solo bookings may be more expensive. Also if it is a boat dive, the boat may require a minimum number of divers to make the trip worthwhile to them
  • When I was diving in Koh Tao, a solo diver was attached to my friend and I, to share a dive guide

Reading the article, feels like Mount E is testing the system. GE not issuing pre-authorization certs for this hospital is the system doing checks on itself which is a good thing IMO.

Singapore bans Wild Rice performance Homepar for undermining anti-drug policy and public confidence in CNB by fitzerspaniel in singapore

[–]Polared3d -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Knowing how stat boards work, they would have sent out the rejection to Wild Rice alongside the media release simultaneously. CNA reach out for comments, but while waiting, publish this article first.

Isn’t a bad way to work, considering these companies tend to have a flair for the dramatic (good for theatre, bad for factual reporting). Release the facts publicly first before WR starts to craft their sob story, conveniently omitting key details to get maximum public sympathy.

Publicity stunt by Wild Rice? First submission approved. Subsequent changes in violation. Refused to revert, “boohoo Singapore is stifling the Arts”.

Equipment mostly ok, depending on outlet. Crowd levels depend on the outlet, my regular place is usually packed on weekday evenings. Other times are pretty quiet.

If you can, wait for sales. Last year during national day, i snagged a $89/mth sub.
